I think that NamePros should get the hack installed that makes it so that you can not bump your own thread. Your text is just added to your last post. Not sure if it is a hack or an option, but either way we need it. There are quite a few people bumping there threads and then creating new threads in the advertising section. Then they have two threads at the top. Thanks.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I think this is definately an idea... but would make more sense if you could only bump once every 24 hours or it adds it on....

How about we just make it a rule...

Oh wait, it is a rule.

A bump every 24 hours is okay but I do see some people bumping their threads every couple of hours.

Don't we have this already? I remember replying to a thread once and it just added it to the bottom of the previous post - at least I think this was here. It also might be that it's only in certain forums or after a certain amount of time.

I'm just replying to see if this is the case. If it doesn't work, it might've been on the old vB before upgrading.

'bump' ;)

i think that bumping should be allowed, but only once every 24 hours, not every 3 hours or so. Another way is maybe after your thread goes to the 20 th thread or on the next page or something

I miss the old vB... And I think you're right...

The old site was so much better.

So if you guys think bumping is okay every 24 hours... I could just make threads and bump them every 24 hours so my threads would always be at the top? I think we should do away with bumping, and make it so that you have to start a new topic. If we don't do that, you can start a new topic, AND bump.

Another alternative, which I have seen at WHT, would be make it so that threads are posted by creation date. That way, the bumps do not even matter.

The old version of vB on NamePros had this 'hack' installed. I guess it was incompatible with the new version or RJ just forgot to port it over. Either way, I think it would be a good idea to add it back in again.

I'll be adding it again. Thanks for the reminder.

Well, bumping is most certainly useful, for example when a user creates a thread in the expired domains forum and updates it periodically. I would hate to have to check several pages just to find the thread.

I agree, bumps within reason can be useful. Bumps are allowed once a day and the hack will allow for this. It will only eliminate bumps that are done one after another within a short time period.

I have to agree, the WHT system sucks bigtime. That's why I don't hang around that much over there...

bump addicts would hate you guys

welp, i think the one-bump-per-24hour-rule would not be very nice for some circumstances like for the expired list threads updates, auction marketplace, etc etc.... but it would be a must and fair for some specific sections of the forums like the marketplace, domain appraisals, advertising, hosting offers etc etc....

welp, I guess the admin/mods knows more about these..... :) thus expected..... to avoid this sort of spam

This hack has been reinstalled. If the last poster reposts to the same thread within two hours the new post content will be added to the previous one. In the marketplace, this time limit has been set to 12 hours, with the exception of the auction forum. This only effects threads where the same poster is the last to post in a thread within the time period.

In the sales areas, your threads can get knocked down really fast. In the past, if I'm running an auction, I would bump up my thread as the auction drew near to ending, just so people didn't miss the end. So, I might bump my thread in the morning & then in the evening when the auction was about to end. I think this is a valid reason to bump more than once/day. JMHO

Of course, i will attempt to follow the rules, whatever they are. :)
