It's not even a week yet, that I discovered something that would have changed my life by now if I discovered it long time ago. You can make money flipping domains!!! I wasted all my precious time in social media, blogs, and whatever... instead of learning this long time ago! Bastard.

Alright, I read and I read, and I think I'm ready to jump in the sea, without learning how to swim yet. I buy 4 new domains on GoDaddy, and I list them on auction. "I'm gonna make a lot of money soon and I'm gonna quit my job in retail that is sucking my soul" - I say to myself and my wife.

I list my domains in GoDaddy, and I pay the 20$ fee that is required if I want them to show up in the Featured Homepage more often, and I wait eagerly for offers and bids. Days go by, and I haven't received a single offer yet. "What the hell?!" - I think. "My domains are shorter and better than a lot of domains that I see selling for hundreds of $, and I don't receive a single offer?"

I list one of my domains in Flippa for 9$, and I notice that it shows that my domain is only some hours old. Hmmm.. I continue reading, and I look at other people's auctions, where most of them were bragging that their domains are aged. And now I think I know, that even if I have the greatest domain in the world, if it shows that is only hours or days old, nobody is gonna care about it. I have to wait until they age for like 15 years, and give them to my kids to sell, while I still continue serving customers.

What I want to ask you experienced guys, is that am I right? Am I ever gonna sell a domain that is brand new, or should I only look to buy expiring domains, for which I have no clue how to do it yet. If only I would manage to sell ONE domain, it will give me motivation to focus on this with all my power. I know that I also have to be very patient, but I'm still looking for that first sale.

The other question is, are Auctions better in GoDaddy, or Offer/Counter Offer?

Whatever advice can you give me, I would appreciate it.

Thank you all in advance.

Welcome to NP @Albatros - rarely is a newly registered name sold within the first month of owning it. Some are able to find a name that might fit a particular business and through outbound make a sale. However, most "good" domains should sell in a few years or so, depending on how high you have it priced. Do not put newly registered domains up for auction - you will very rarely get even one bid. Best advice is if you find a good name, put it on Afternic at a decent "Buy Now" price and let it sit there for a while. You can also do focused outbound marketing on the name to certain businesses in that market. Names that you have registered that after 8 or 9 months you realize you don't think you are ever going to sell you can put up for auction here on NP to maybe get something for it before you just let it expire because you don't think it is even worth another year of registration.

Good luck!

Hello and welcome...take some time before you buy any more names and read and read some more. Use the search feature in top right and lots of knowledge can be found here. Best wishes!

Unfortunately domains are like all other career paths in life.... If you want to get rich doing it, you have work harder and smarter than 99% of the others.

However, if you're looking for a fun new hobby and possibly a little extra income, then start reading and settle in for the long haul.

Welcome,

Some investors look for aged domains but most of the end users don't care about the age in my opinion.

I highly recommend dedicating a budget first before buying more names. Read a lot. Good luck.
