Hello,

I'm completely new to the domaining business and very interested and excited about getting started but before i get started I've got a few questions to ask.

1. Where can i buy good domain names that are cheap because at the moment I'm a bit strapped for cash my self i know there's expired and due to be expired domains to choose from but how can i tell if there good domains or not as a lot of them don't appear to have any taffic etc? And of course I'd want to sell them on for a profit afterwards.

2. How do i know the domain/website isn't a malicious site i.e a scam site etc?

3. And where is the best place to sell the domains I've bourght? And also where can i get them valued?

Sorry for my very noob questions but I'm just eager to get started

Thanks in advance
Jordan

1. Before you even begin to think about buying any domains, read..read..and then read some more on the forums. Jumping right into buying domain names with no knowledge will ultimately burn holes right through your pockets. Unfortunately this is something that happens daily in this industry. It's like taking a test without studying. You will fail.

2. Stick to the major players like Godaddy, Name.com ect.... Customer support is a key element when dealing with a registrar.

3. If you want to profit, stick to end-user promotions and sales. If you want to give away your names, the forums always work well.

3.1. You will receive the best and most accurate appraisals right here on NamePros. Stay FAR away from paid appraisals or automated systems.

Good Luck

  1. Probably the expired auctions, like Snapnames/Namejet or Godaddy. The names are not cheap though. You will pay more than regfee. The point is not to buy at a very low price, the point is to buy a great domain with tremendous margin for profit.
But if you cannot afford to lose money at this point (almost guaranteed that's what will happen in the beginning) perhaps it's best to just watch, read read read and learn. This does not cost anything.
It takes money to make money, and keep in mind the majority of domainers are losing money.
  2. See above
  3. There is no 'best place', focus on domains that somebody would actually want (to the point of paying more than regfee for it).
  4. Selling to domainers is tough, because domainers are cheap and everybody wants to sell :)
Focus on domains that an end user would want to own.

Hi guys

Thanks for all the tips it helped a lot, where would be the best place to read about this stuff are there any good books out there to buy or any decent web sites to learn from?

Also could someone enlighten me on domain parking too I've been searching all over google to try and find more info about it but I'm finding it pretty hard to find anything in detail about it.

Thanks

You are on the best resource for learning domaining, Namepros. It's much better than any book, is totally free, and requires only your time and effort.

Also could someone enlighten me on domain parking too I've been searching all over google to try and find more info about it but I'm finding it pretty hard to find anything in detail about it.

Thanks

Domain parking basically means putting up a web page with ads on it. This is handled through a parking company. Unless your domain has a lot of visitors/traffic, it won't make sense to park your domain.
