Moving on from the 3D, Cloud , NFC, Marijuana etc....trends, what do people think will be the next big money maker for the domainer?

I have a few Big Data domains but I like my hand in several dishes so if anyone would like to share their thoughts I'm sure a lot of domainers would appreciate any insights to what's gonna be hot or not.

Cheers

Hover Crafts are also for "thrill-seekers and the odd extreme sportsmen" , I don't know a single person who owns one and they are very expensive

Stu, I researched these ages ago, they are used in a multitude of industries now for all sort of reasons and they not not expensive anymore if you look at from a business perspective, sure the average Joe in the street cant always go and buy one, but businesses use them a lot and people with a few $$ buy them as well

The bikes will take ages to hit mainstream, save all those renewals and but something happening sooner

All future tech is speculative until its real....

I think mainstream Holo Tv will not be until another 10-15 years......We already have holographic dead pop stars coming through now, but to convert this into something that is in your living room will take many years to perfect and come down to a realistic affordable price. However like all start-ups in all types of technology, domain names are generally bought at the beginning of a journey, so many years before tech is developed and perfected in a particular sector, any investor could be eyeing up a future trend domain already in someone's portfolio.

When things start to materialize, they do at speed............Just my look on things.

Cheers

I agree MrCurly one thing i have noticed, Oculus Rift is speeding up Holo technology.

Accessible Holodeck type learning tools and games are just around the corner. I actually see the net being a virtual experience. If someone wants to shop they won't see 2D pictures but rather wear a virtual device to be immersed in a 3D virtual store where they can wear an item or interact with a shop attendant etc.

Also i see students studying virtually. History for example, wouldn't it be cool when learning, to virtually see Watson and Crick working on their DNA model or Wozniak and Gates working on their computers.

That would be totally excellent! maybe this is not holographic because of the gear required but i think it is still cool and like a holodeck. :)

Same applies to hover bikes with multiple uses -

Also I can see people renewing holo domains for the next 10 years...

True, but crafts are here, bikes are still coming..if they arrive at all, we dont know that yet, the joys of predicting this stuff I guess

I won't renew my holo names for 10 years, ive learnt that, maybe holotech but thats it

I fancy doing the same but with VR Goggles on and 3D Printed legs.

Here are some up-and-coming technologies that are likely to receive a lot more attention in coming years from computer geeks. For the most part, they're already in widespread use; they're just not well-known yet.

Thanks Paul, had a couple of them in mind myself......

From that list, M.2, 802.11ac, and DisplayPort are guaranteed a lot more attention in the very near future. M.2 will likely get less of a crowd than 802.11ac and DisplayPort since it's an internal technology that your average consumer won't know about, but it'll be big on the mobile front among geeks. USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt will most likely see significant increases in popularity since they're solid, generic protocols with a lot of industry backing, but they haven't taken off yet. SATA Express may fizzle out traffic-wise since its connector is likely to be overtaken by M.2, but M.2 uses SATA Express as a protocol, so the technology itself isn't going anywhere.

Most consumers will call 802.11ac something like "Wi-Fi ac". In order of release: a, b, g, n, ac. Most current hardware uses 802.11n or 802.11g. ac is more than 10 times faster than g, and 2-5 times as fast as n. It also carries over greater distances.
