Newtown Memorial related domains

I purchased some domains to use for various memorial projects, none of which involve me taking donations of any kind.

One domain I own is NewtownMemorial.com and I got an interesting email from somebody asking me to donate it to him as he might keep it in protective custody for future use by an official memorial of some type. He also said that if I decided not to donate it, he would be willing to pay a fair price ( it's not for sale ) which leads me to think he might be a scammer of sorts.

What are your thoughts.....I obviously said no. I am NOT trying to scam anyone and have my own memorial project.

What does it involve, how were you planning on making money with these?

Not planning on making money with it, I do many things for awareness to certain issues-subjects and have done memorial sites in the past to enable sharing, ext...about those killed, none of which earn me anything but personal satisfaction.

Yeah, not really a fan of domainers buying these sorts of names. Somebody who actually might have been directly affected might have wanted this but you got it already. If it wasn't you, probably would have been some other domainer.

In general, I also don't buy the personal satisfaction reason, it's usually something. You said you have done these before. Sometimes people do put ads up, use it to link out, something. People usually don't put effort into something so they can lose time and money unless it's something that means something to them, something that affected them personally. But I don't know you personally, so I don't know.

I also don't think it helps enable sharing etc. I think it just leads to confusion since there are so many of those types of sites out and it kind of gets spread out. I typed in Newtown Memorial, saw this site - http://newtownmemorialfund.org/

Looks legit, has almost 5000 FB fans, their page says it's been mentioned on some top news shows like CBS, donations over $100,000, the guy who started it said he's a near-lifetime resident of Newtown, plan to go the official route, lawyers etc. But I don't know. And that's because I've seen fraud sites put up in the past, some nice looking ones, and because of that, it makes me question it. But this one looks legit to me.

If you really want to do good, donate the domain to somebody legit, who will do something good with it and stay away from these types of domains. I would understand if the memorial sites you were making, you had some real connection with in some way.
