On March 1st, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) made a decision in regards to the contested domain name veolia.mobi in WIPO Case Number D2007-0068. This constitutes the first decision surrounding a contested dot.mobi domain.

Panelist Nitter, Peter G. ordered the defendant Tom Baert to relinquish his domain veolia.mobi due to the fact that it violates trademark laws in favor of the company Veolia Environnement.

I am sure that we will see many more contested .mobi domain cases emerge, especially as dot mobi emerges as a frequently used domain extension on mobile devices in the future.

well at least companies feel .mobi domains are worth fighting over...if no one cared at all, I would be worried...indifference is worse than a fight.

same goes for .mobi arguements here at np :gl:

:imho: they were just protecting their mark. Many large companies monitor ICANN registrations to protect their mark.

This really doesn't say anything about Veolia Environnement's view of Mobi IMO

Well I have never heard of Veolia Environnement and with their funny spelling I expect they are in some other country. Perhaps the previous owner of veoila.mobi had bad faith, perhaps not. It is a rather nice 6 letter pronounceable, but there has yet to be much of a run on even four letter pronounceables in .mobi.

But inc.mobi still sticks in my craw. That was a terrible terrible ruling that haunts this new extension IMO. Anybody have an update? I know the owner was hopping mad and requested a civil trial.

The owner of inc.mobi was Jon aka mobiledesigner over at DNF he's just let it go now, he's getting on with life after that injustice!
