Hello,

I am going to register a .com, .org, .net and .co.uk domain name. At first I was just going to go to GoDaddy, then I ran across this web site and am a little leary now. Not that I think GoDaddy is bad, it's just I came here for some answers and affirmation, and now I have more questions.

I am confused about this registar lock issue and how it will relate to me. I just want to park these for a few weeks. I also want anominity in who can see who registers the name.

Any ideas on who I should look at and why? Another way to approach this is to find out who NOT to go with.

Thank you in advance for your views and opinions.

Dave

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

If you absolutely want privacy, you can use Name.com which gives it for free (other registrars may have lower prices but they charge for whois privacy).

Anyway, as a starter, don't start registering every single name you can think of! Before registering some names, you're warmly encouraged to spend at least a couple of weeks reading NamePros. It can be an invaluable source of learning and, what is more important, will prevent you from wasting money on worthless names!

User errors are beyond any ones control - so being new, always read the
instructions carefully ;) and if you read through the forums here you'll see
the reviews of many good companies.

This is my opinion of Godaddy, I have used them for 4 years with
no issues. They have great coupons and/or discounts.
The Registrar Lock is to prevent someone stealing your domain - it's a security feature.
To get anonymity they have a service called DomainsByProxy which is also good.

Hello,

Thanks for the quick advice. Does GoDaddy offer Register Lock? Also, can I just register the domain name with our company name?

Thanks again!,

Dave

yes you can reg it in a company name, just make sure you use real contact info

The Registrar Lock can be locked and you still can move it from being parked to a real website

So, could I register it with the company name and keep my personal details confidential then? Is there a one stop shop to register a domain name and also make sure I can have privacy?

Thanks to all that help!

Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave. Most registry companies offer that. Private registration is a 4.95 charge on a single domain with us or if you buy 5 or more we include it free.

GoDaddy works out just fine. I currently have the majority of my domain names registered with them. If you want privacy they have a service which offers it which will completely block your domain registration information. I've used it as well and have had no dilemmas. Remember, everyone has there preferences when it comes to this industry. Try it for yourself before you decide it is something you don't want to use. You can always transfer the domains to a new registrar.

As I stated above, Name.com is an overall good registrar and offers whois privacy for free.
So, could I register it with the company name and keep my personal details confidential then? Is there a one stop shop to register a domain name and also make sure I can have privacy?

Thanks to all that help!

Cheers,
Dave

All good advice....I'm soaking it up like a biscuit to gravy!
Will making the information private affect SEO at all? I am leaning toward GoDaddy still, but the others haven't lost out yet.

Thanks for all the help.

Regards,

Dave
