Alright guys,

Im new on here so hi to everyone firstly :)

Anyways, so I have been approached a few times last year with regards to selling my .com name of my username here. But have declined as i been meaning to build on it... background to my username is that i used to DJ and produce music so hence its my musical alter ego. But thats a long time ago now and i havent had time to build my site to this day.

However, last week i have been offered to buy the domain off me. But the people that approached me are part of a reseller of some sort and have approached me on behalf of "said" clientelle. Is this normally how these things work?

I just said a ball park figure if i was to sell, and they came back and offered me that if i wanted to go on and proceed. Question is, how do you know when a domain name is worth what your selling for or more even?

And second of all, if i do decide to sell, how do you usually go about doing this, i.e. money payment (paypal?) and also transferring said domain (in which i have just renewed as well). Thanks.

Ed

Make sure it's not an appraisal scam. To find out more about appraisal scam, do a search in this forum.

Well, what a loaded question!.:) Firstly, as to the value of your domain, that is by far what I consider the hardest part of this business, what to value the domains you use, some over value it, some under value it, there are appraisals out there, you can look at current trends, past sales history of similar domains, my advice is do some research and see how people value their domains and see if you can gauge the value of your domain!.

If you do decide to sell, use escrow.com, it's safe for both the buyer and seller, and don't fall for domain appraisal scams either....

congrats on your pending domain sale ;)

Maybe the possible buyer wants to remain anonymous at this stage and hired a broker to negotiate on their behalf. Nothing wrong with that.
Make sure it's not an appraisal scam of some sort and use escrow.com for payment.

1. Post the contents of the letter here, and we'll tell you right away if it's a scam. Many kinds of appraisal and buyer scams going around and Namepros members have seen so many of them we'll know right away. You can delete out any info you don't want us to see but post what parts of the letter you can.

2. If it's a real offer, put your dn up for appraisal in the appraisals section to hear our thoughts on price. It's okay to mention you have an offer, ask our members if they think the offer is good, what you should do from there, etc. You might want to change the domain enough when you post it so that it isn't indexed by search engines, so the potential buyer/s won't see your threads here. Something like yella fella . com with spaces, or yellafella(.)com, whatever.

3. If a buyer wants to carry through, use some kind of escrow service for the payment. Escrow.com, or sign up (free) at sedo.com, list your name for sale, and have them make their bid through there.

Good luck :)

If they agree on a price but want you to get it appraised and give you a link to something then its a scam.

Otherwise you should here out thoughts on the name from people here at namepros. To answer you question about domain value, honestly it can be worth anything. It just depends on how much you are willing to let it go for, thats the real value.

As for payment methods, there are many out there some common ones are paypal and moneybookers. Also if it is anything over like $500 you should look in to an escrow service.

There's a lot of tv ads here starring a guy called Yella Fella that promotes a type of lumber by this company , greatsouthernwood.com. Maybe they only show it in the south (US), but everybody knows it here .
