According to an article in the New York Times, the city of New York is on the verge of making a deal with a “Virgina based company” that would apply for and operate the gTLD of .NYC.

According to the story the city would be guaranteed a to received $3,6 Million over the first 5 years.

a lot of money there..NY has great potential for registering domains..there is nothing that doesn't exist in NY - tourism, banking, finance, wall street, etc. etc. big market
