New Years Gift to NP TVers (Sports.tv)

Happy New Years Fellow NPers.

Great news, it seems Sports.tv was picked up!!!! Not sure if it was picked up on the drop or a PVT sale (with a $100,000/yr renewal), but it is in new hands.

My guess is that it was purchased on the drop for $49,050. Not bad for a million dollar domain (IMHO).

Congratulations to the new owner. I hope you do Sports.tv proud.

Happy and healthy 2011 to all.

Best,

Claude

I see it as a difficult name to monetize, Sports cost money. Look how much ESPN,FOX,ABC,CBS,NBC pay to get the rights to the NFL, MLB,College Football. Its in the billions of dollars. If the site is rehashed ESPN or Fox or Sky Sports content then I don't think the site will be a success. This is the lure of the great name that may be a trap since its hard to find the magic ingredient. Maybe they just are investing hoping for the big fish to come along and buy the name. Again IMO

The info was listed in the name.com whois at that point in time, but apparently the whois info was incorrect.

Kissme.tv and Sports.tv have the same look and Kissme.tv is MrRhee. Interesting Wagner is using same page.

ESPN was started by a fired cable TV ad salesman, when cable was the "new media", simply to cover sports, in one state, with a program called Sports Center.

When they went national, 24/7 (because satellite time was cheaper), few thought they could compete with the big boys like ABC Wide World of Sports.

Now you mention them in the same sentence... and Disney owns both.

The right people, with the right property, in the right place, at the right time... can do wonders... if they have "the right mind".

This clears things out,

As we discussed with others, should be an error in registry and domain gone to Hexonet
Hexonet does not support Premium names (invalid attribute error), so domain gone there
by mistake it seems.
Now whois server of name.com answers correctly for the name

Ugh, whoever got the name - I hope they have plans for it.

I'd hate to see such a great domain "parked" with a boring contact form :P

Why don't you check who owns dns.tv, then you'll know who the owner of sports.tv is

Thanks,

Jason

I think we have been seeing the upward repricing of portfolios in the past couple of months.

A registration seen as being 'lucky' because the new owner got it for 'just' $49,950 in the same week a name offer of $125,000 was declined because it was too low will have everyone re-writing their prices once again. Incredible.

Oh, and this is the same week I personally sold Pilot for $20,000 to an enduser, accepted a $5.5k offer for another name AND accepted $4,000 for a name at SEDO (not completed yet) that couldn't get a $10 start in the NP marketplace just three months ago.

Happy New Year? You bloody well bet it is!
