For anyone that cares:

I was waiting for this premium to drop ($4500) on 4/14 and saw that it was picked up by http://www.OnlineFishing.TV

I'm not affiliated with them in any way but glad to see the domain picked up by an end-user. Fishing.TV is currently parked but the new owner's site is live and it is a great site. I'm sure they'll be forwarding and possibly re-branding anyday.

I'm sure they were excited to grab the category killer .TV for their industry and it looks like they paid full price (accdg to ahead.tv)

I would have picked this up, but the domain is in great hands.

anyone else waiting for this one? or would've bought it if they had the chance? ;)

i love fishing and surely the name is a great name... however - $4500 is a large toll to pay which is why i had no interest in the name. the other thing is that the name is too general for me.

the other thing to remember is your audience. who are you trying to reach with "fishing?" who searches for "fishing"???... probably the casual, less savvy, less experienced fisherman who is trying to learn the basics. this person is typically looking for general advice like what kind of hook to use, etc as opposed to a debate on the merits of flurocarbon vs. mono, etc.

Technology has allowed fishing to become and extremely specific, detailed sport over the past 10 - 20 years. Most serious fisherman have certain "species" of fish that they target - and in and around each fish lies a built in fan base and set of specific techniques and tactics that would blow your mind. Each species has in essence become it's own "sport" - and in these specific disciplines and target species is where i see the best opportunity in this niche based upon my experience.

your post makes me regret not pulling the trigger and buying the domain. :(

I think any sport related names for .tv are one of the best investments. Kam sold Fight.tv for $18,000 a while back. Fishing.tv is outstanding. Any sport that is on tv has much value. I have received a few offers for both
Track.tv and Skating.tv myself.

Thanks, Jim

I'm really happy for the end user in this case and, as MrRhee notes, they were probably very happy to get this category killer.

The premium is very steep but, as someone who pays a similar amount for at least one of my names I imagine they feel the same as I do - they have what they want at a price they are happy to pay.

The onlinefishing.tv site is a worthy site and a good example of what can be for almost every good name owned in .TV

We need more like this to get the TV brand in a place where it is recognised everywhere, not just a few markets around the world.

MrRhee - I am glad you chose not to buy it - it made an interesting viewing experience.

Hi discovernow,
I own netball.tv and and wingsuit.tv, I have tried contacting end users direct (email) and have not even had a bite. Do you have any suggestions? I'm still very positive about the potential for netball.tv just need to find the right end user.

Cheers Mat

I know how you feel. I have several that are gangbusters as they fit the extension. I emailed(each seperately, not in batches) sports organizations and recieved few responses, mostly thank you for thinking of us.

I even had a powerpoint presentation that I was able to send to a few where I was able to. I would appreciate any tips of breaking that wall between domain name owner and enduser also.

Yes I contacted sports organizations direct and even big ticket sport channels, just no traction. I no through speaking with domainers that persistence is the key. I remember reading, I think it was rt.TV took over 6 months for the transaction to complete, he ended up selling it for $62,500!! Pretty impressive.

As I remember ,they have contacted him first, I think, so than it was mainly dealing about the price .

There are lots of fishing-related TV's on TDNAM closeouts at the moment, including -

FishingRod.tv
FishingRods.tv
Lures.tv
HuntingFishing.tv
FishingGuide.tv
FishingLure.tv
FishingReel.tv

...and several fish-related names (halibut, bluefintuna....). I know nothing about fishing, so don't know if they're any use to you fishing enthusiasts? :)

Cheers, Jon

Agree that the renewal is too high, not a name for a speculator to hold.

It is the key term for the industry, there is no doubt.

Nice name to have.

I have www.FishingChannel.net

That is a really nice name... and a good example of what i meant earlier.

While there is no debate that fishing dot tv is a fantastic name - i would have real reservations paying $5000 year - when fishingchannel dot net/tv or a name like fishingnetwork dot tv could be had for way less...

That's just me tho... just 1 person's opinion. Doesn't make it right or wrong - just the way i feel about it... and i am someone who loves and understand the sport as someone who has been fishing for over 30 years.

:)

Angling.tv

I had my eye on Fishing.tv but decided that the renewal fee was just too much. I already own Angling.tv and thought that if I owned both domains I would be in a good position. I just couldn't afford it unfortunately.

I am however developing Angling.tv and with a normal reg fee I have been able to invest more money in programming instead of the domain name.

I believe that the sport of fishing/angling lends itself extremely well to .tv and online video content in general. There is also a massive worldwide interest in the sport with the UK having around 4 million anglers and the US around 34 million anglers. Obviously there are other countries too.

I am sure that Fishing.tv is a very good name and that the site will be successful. I know that the company who own the domain have invested a substantial amount of money into their existing video site.

For my project the budget has been very tight, but I believe that I have a good name and the makings of a good site.

My site should be launching in the next couple of months. I will post in this forum when it's ready to view.

Good luck with the site. :) I look forward to seeing it when it's ready.

yeah Good Luck, Angling.tv is a nice domain.

There are already a few really good Fishing .Tv's as it goes really well with Video content, focusing on the one area like 'angling' is probably the best way to establish yourself in that niche area.

If you hit any issues during the development then feel free to get in touch, i'm far from knowing all the answers but can put you in touch with many others who are developing .tv's right now & might of came across a similar issue.

Regards Fishing.tv
I do find it a little strange that the new owners have not redirected it to their main site but i'm sure they will soon as otherwise registering it had little advantage outside stopping a competitor muscling in on the market and owining the top domain.
I see 2 possibilities for Fishing.tv
1: OnlineFishing rebrand as 'Fishing.tv' & switch domains (which would be my choice if they asked me, doubt they will ask me though  )
2: They redirect it and continue doing what they are doing, making a impact with a excellent .tv website.

Cheers,
Ronnie

Thanks for the support.

Regarding onlinefishing.tv I definitely think they should rebrand it to fishing.tv. I often have a look at their site and find their exiting name pretty unmemorable. That could just be my own dodgy memory though.
