In July, Hotels.eu sold for $330,000, according to Sedo, and Shopping.eu fetched $200,000.

Ireit is buying cctld's,,,,,,This spring it spent millions of dollars - Ostrofsky describes the amount as "mid-seven figures" - to buy up a collection of names ending in .de (Germany), .nl (the Netherlands) and .fr (France). The firm is now looking into deals in India and China.

IMO, EU is neither a gTLD nor a ccTLD...since its limited to EU its not truly a global ("g") TLD...its a distinct category in its own right.

Not true. Officially, .eu is a ccTLD (even though it is neither a country nor global in nature). The ccTLDs are named from IANA's official two-letter designations (they are not subject to ICANN like the global TLDs are). They are run by local organizations, like EURid for .eu. You can see the official list of all ccTLDs, including .eu, here:

warehousing of .eu domains good or bad for .eu prices?

The interesting question is whether or not the warehousing of .eu domains good or bad for .eu domain prices? On the one hand the relative scarcity of .eu domains would seem to limit suppy and therefore drive up demand; but on the other hand, if .eu warehousing retards awareness of the .eu extension, will that ultimately depress .eu prices for the next few years?
