Both my domaining partner and I spend some good time looking at new tech, trying to catch new words/terms/phrases as they come out. Some grow larger, others go nowhere and we let them expire. I know this thread is about new tech, but I wanted to mention new 'anything', looking at the future proactively.
For a few examples:
I regged a new term I heard on TV a couple years back, prompose and promposal (you can google them). Might seem dumb but you never know which words will catch on, expecially with the young crowd. These ones didn't and I've let them expire.
For new tech I and my pard have a few words, thinking of the future. My pard has chipDebitCard.com and I have chipDebitCards.com, these are being touted as much more secure than the usual magnetic-based debit cards and chipdebitcard is the term the banks are using, with plans to make a complete switch over by 2012 or so. Who knows? And another plus is they're financial terms, so have nicer advertiser bid amounts. A name we'll build a minisite for very soon.
For non-tech example, I regged KennebecPotato.com and KennebecPotatoes.com just a few days back. It's a new strain of potato that is becoming very well known among better restaurants, for its taste and its properties in making great french fries. Has searches and decent daily wordtracker and advertiser bid rates. Gonna build a small minisite for it very soon as well, with adsense.
So, we dig hard for ANY new kinds of terms, we don't stick to just tech. LIke anything, some will pay off and others will be dumped.
