I thnk you need to come up with a budget on how much money you are willing to lose each year and then work within that budget keepng in mindit may take forever to get a sale. You also have to renew your domains each year or so and that costs money. I'd recommend you spend your first year registering .COM only and see how much a domain name is appraised for before registering it. All of which still has nothing to do with the chances of it being sold. Good luck.

Welcome, Kelly! You’ve got the right mindset—creativity is the fun part, but patience and budgeting are key. As mentioned, renewals can add up, so working within a yearly budget really helps. For appraisals, I usually check Dynadot, Afternic, and GoDaddy (though valuations vary a lot). Hostinger has also started offering this service to its members recently. I only buy virgin domains, so it’s not possible to check their value before buying—but fortunately, most of them turn out to be worth 50 to 100 times the purchase price.

I now have just over 100 domains. I do not allow myself to go on Expireddomains .net and I only allow myself to buy 4ls maybe once or twice a year.
