My name is George. I'm new to the board. I've help start 5 internet companies; one went public, one sold to a well know software company, and my last company is still going strong.

I have made a major investment in .TV domains for two reasons, branding and search engine optimization. In Sept, I made one of the top 10 largest .TV purchases of 2006. I read a thread on this board questioning the wisdom of that purchase because this vertical isn't TV friendly. Trust me, any vertical is video friendly.

I buy TV domains for two reasons. #1 - they are great for branding. #2 is seach engine optimization. If I want to get high ranking when people search "widgets" and widgets.TV is open, then I would much rather buy widgets.TV than some of other .COM that has no relevance to the search term. Trust me, Google and Yahoo reward domains that match the search term.

What .TV needs is "core" brand that achieves success for the domain resale market to take off. Networks like mine, National.TV, and others are trying to do that.

Stay tuned. I will keep you updated.

Hi George, Welcome to the Forum.

It is always good to hear from people who believe in .TV,you have certainly put your money where your mouth is.
I read with interest your comments regard ranking and i agree 100%, you are still going to get some people who say only buy relevant .TV words or phrases, but as you say,it is better to own Fish.tv as opposed to Stansbigfishbar.com,
Look forward to hearing more from you soon.

Best of luck

Hi George welcome to the forums! So did you buy election.tv, is that what you are referring to? Or was it your portal site national.tv? Either way very nice concepts and well designed sites! Good Luck.

National.TV

I have emailed the owner of National.TV (I was looking to buy one of his domains). The transaction never took place. The owner of National.TV and Election.TV is on this board. He seems like a very nice person. I do not own that company. I believe (in my limited emails with them) that he is trying to build a network of video sites similiar to what we are trying to develop.

The primary difference is probably that video is one component of our business plan, but our plan uses video to support our main business model as opposed to video being our primary business model. If that makes sense.

I own many .TV domains in the home, landscaping, event planning, pet, fitness, and personal finance space.

I won't give out any of my holdings at this time until the business plan is launched. My old executive team from my previous company joins the new company on Monday. We then have two weeks in our war-room launching the model by 2/1 (hopefully).

of their sites and will use video to augment their existing business model.

Welcome to the board George. Will you be attending the Video On the Net show in San Jose? (www.videoonthenet.com) we are launching our company there and it is a great show to meet others in the industry and to hear about the latest info on video on the net.

I just passed the information on to my Executive VP of Business Development. His IM back to me "wow...interesting". I'm sure he will attend.

Thanks for the info. We have been so busy trying to launch the company, we have not been paying as much attention to the conference circuit as we do once the company is operational.

i cant get that excited over pestcontrol.tv

Well, I'm glad one of the top pest control companies in the world can get excited, we have a signed contract with them. My former company had over 400 local pest control companies advertising with it and there are over 100,000 searches a month on Yahoo for the term "Pest Control". One of our .TV domains premiered on the front page of Yahoo for the keyword that matched the domain.

Pest Control companies have corporate videos and advertisements just like the rest of the world and when someone is looking for a pest control company (as 100,000 people do a month on Yahoo), a video will help introduce them to a pest control company better than a yellow page listing.

Maybe everyone can get excited over contractor.tv and landscaper.tv (also contractors.tv and landscapers.tv).

Welcome George!!

Hi George.. Welcome to this forum.. I am fairly new here as well, and really enjoy everybody's input here. We are launching beer.tv in a couple weeks as well. It looks as though there will be many new .tv websites rising in the coming months. I hope we all can work together and create some great traffic and opportunities for each others sites. Please keep this forum informed of updates as we will be looking to cross promote as well.

Best Regards all.

Yes,

Good luck to you George. I think the key to success with development is determination above all else. You seem to have it in spades.

Hi MillersCrossing

Yes, determination is a key trait for any internet entrep. Sometime I will tell you a story about my last company. It will make a great book someday.

Another one of my TV domains is Remodeling.TV, I'm really excited about that business plan.

One idea for cross promotion. A few years ago all the Geo IP sites got together and formed AssociatedCities.com to cross promote and share common features. Maybe something like that would work in the TV realm.

Hi George,

Nice to have you on board. True that it needs lot of determination a little more than money, imo. Please tell us your story with your first company, I am interested to know.

Looking forward to see the progress.

Another time GH, remind me once my sites are launched

lets just say in 1999 my company was underfunded (by $50M) and competiting against 40 companies. Two years later, we were the only ones standing.

How this happened, would make a great Harvard Business Case, book, and possibly movie.

We were the only ones to survive the bubble, but that is not the best part of the story. It is how we survived the bubble and what we did that is a minor miracle.

Money isn't everything. Determination is.
