My name is George. I'm new to the board. I've help start 5 internet companies; one went public, one sold to a well know software company, and my last company is still going strong.
I have made a major investment in .TV domains for two reasons, branding and search engine optimization. In Sept, I made one of the top 10 largest .TV purchases of 2006. I read a thread on this board questioning the wisdom of that purchase because this vertical isn't TV friendly. Trust me, any vertical is video friendly.
I buy TV domains for two reasons. #1 - they are great for branding. #2 is seach engine optimization. If I want to get high ranking when people search "widgets" and widgets.TV is open, then I would much rather buy widgets.TV than some of other .COM that has no relevance to the search term. Trust me, Google and Yahoo reward domains that match the search term.
What .TV needs is "core" brand that achieves success for the domain resale market to take off. Networks like mine, National.TV, and others are trying to do that.
Stay tuned. I will keep you updated.
