New, but I've got some domains already

Hello everyone

I am on here, I've been learning about domain trading for a couple of months. Read a few of the guides and wathched vidoes (domainsherpa etc) I've been reading the forum for a few hours now, understood quite a bit, and am keen to learn more!

Curently I own 17 domains, which haven't actually got much traffic yet.. though I like the keywords in them. I checked and automated tool estibot valuation range is 600-3k USD. So I'm reassessinig my strategies.

I'm open to learning, so please feel free to direct me to any information source you think would be beneficial!

My own newbie questions:

* How long to recoup my capital injection ?
-- I figure, invest 1,000 USD, which should get me around 60 domains, and then I hope to sell 5% per year, which would mean if I sell 3, I need to sell them for 400 USD each min. Then I've covered my estibot membership too. So then year2, I pay the renewals, replace those 3 domains, and make slightly more profit.

If you already own some domains, better wait for sales and reinvest this cash that you earned to purchase new domains.

Hi, thats a good idea.. where is a good place to sell? I put them on afternic and sedo already.. listed one on ebay.com

There are special sections of this forum where you can post your domains for sale

I would also sell your domains on GoDaddy Auctions, and maybe also put them up for sale on your own website. If you are parking your domains, I'd recommend you also have the parking companies, for sale option turned on.

I've listed on afternic and sedo. I did think godaddy had some affiliate arrangement, but I can't find my domains on godaddy..

I'll manually add them to godaddy and see how they go!

you seem to be like every new newbie that walks thru these doors now.

the entry to mind blowing has been laid out for you


they have read a guide, seen video by the same person and been got by the bot upgrade subscription plan.

then their off to the domain registration races with the packaged strategy they've been handed.

too bad your mind has already been pre-programmed

but now, you'll get a chance to unlearn some shit, for free!

I agree, that estibot ideas should be tossed out of the window.

You need to learn what makes a a name good.

Estibot can favor a crap name over a good name when comes to appraisal values.

You can't let a bot determine where your money should go.

Biggie is completely right. You need to unlearn first, what you think you know

BTW if you have 1K to invest don't buy 60 (or 100) domains. Instead buy just one or two quality domains that will have much better odds of selling. Worst case scenario, they don't sell before renewal time, you will still pay much less in renewal fees for two domains than sixty or more...

But you need to learn what to buy and what not to buy. Good luck.

PS: domain names don't sell because they have nice (automated therefore meaningless) appraisals. They sell because somebody wants them.

Quality not quantity is a good point. Will help me keep costs lower.
When I buy, I ask myself if I could develop the domain into a business. I do skip a lot, I try get generic terms.

Well there is a way to make that $1,000 go to work more for you. If your gonna dump it all into domains hand registering then make sure to use godaddy discount codes. This way you can get them for .99, 1.99, 2.99 each and etc. They are always offering promo codes for discounts. there is a thread here on namepros that people post them to for you to help the members of the forum out. Make sure to go to the last few pages as all the others pretty much have expired. There is time limits or even usage limits on them. in example first 10,000 registrations, etc Below is a link to the thread for you.
