I thought that if any Network Solutions reg'd name dropped it was 100% guaranteed to drop to Snapnames if you back ordered it.

Was wrong on that one today. No big deal. The domain was asiafood.com

A long time ago I remember someone posted a list of where names were supposed to drop. Not sure if things have changed.

Anyone have an updated list?

Here's the thing :

All Network Solutions names go through Snapnames FIRST (Preferred Partner Auctions).. prior to the actual drop.

If they don't get picked up through that process, they then go through the REAL drop. Once they hit the REAL drop, Snapnames has no inherent advantage (other than they have like a gazillion in house registrars working for them).

So my guess is that no one picked it up in the first go around throug hthe Snapnames PP auction. I'd be surprised if it skipped that step.

If you want, I can check out my log files and verfify asiafood went through the SnapNames PP last week.

Look at the history of asiafood.com. The domain was supposed to have expired only in October of this year. It looks like the original registrant had the domain cancelled. I'm not sure how domain cancellations work, but it appears that it went to normal drop rather than to Snap exclusive first.

Thanks Bill and Sharon

Bill and Sharon,

I'd be interested to know for future reference what happened. The domain was showing pending delete yesterday. It was showing up ready to back order so I placed an order yesterday (as usual with any Snapnames auction). From 2:00pm onward it was shjowing acquiring name as usual. As noted I was pretty sure that Snapnames would grap it since the Whois info was showing Network Solutions - pending delete - yesterday.

Any more info Bill would be interesting. I wanted it because I assumed it would have kept its ten year old creation date but thats another story (another thread starting right after I finish typing this reply).

Thanks
db

I looked through my archives. AsiaFood.com never came through as a Snapnames preferred partner; only a True Drop. That's pretty rare, and methinks Sharon hit the nail on the head.

Good news (not to pimp my site or anything :hi: ) is you can see the difference at AllDrops pretty easily. If it's a "True Drop", you need to use Pool, Snapnames, and eNom Club Drop regardless of the company it was originally regged with (as it's pending delete, and it's almost guaranteed to hit the open market). Every other type is either a Preferred Partner drop (eNom, TuCows, GoDaddy, Snapnames) or a "taste" (Snapnames Public Auctions).

BTW - Thanks alibiba for the kind words on AllDrops. I've been working on the backend a bit recently, and the scoring system should see a major improvement over the course of the next couple of weeks. I don't have a backorder system in place, but there may be hope for something like that on the horizon. :)
