Negotiation in progress. 400NP$ for closest guess.

Alright, let's learn the art of negotiation and have some fun.

Facts:

- It's a non-profit organization in Sweden.
- Their main domain is <Two-Swedish-Words>.se
- They purchased .org a few months back for $650 and pointed it to their main site
- I happen to own the .com
- none of the other TLDs are taken, including .net and .eu
- no trademark issues

Circumstances:

- I emailed webmaster@<Two-Swedish-Words>.se to notify them that I own the .com and it's for sale.
- The reply came in rather quickly (good sign) thanking me for keeping them in mind and asking about the price.
- I replied with generic "Make an offer".

I'll be updating along the way.

Now... I don't know how this will play out, so make your guess. Closest guess (when/if sold) gets 100NP$. Please state what you base your guesses on.

Comments/advice/opinions greatly appreciated.

Leo.

Update:
Jeff was graceful enough to add another 200NP$ for the winner. I will match that. The pot for the closest guess now stands at 400NP$.

$0 and they buy the .net.

I'd say yours could bring in $2000, being that it's .com and they paid $650 for the .org, and they're interested.

Just a guess though, taking into account what you've told us.

I've always had more luck, when I've contacted a person first, by having some sort of price in mind instead of asking them to make an offer. Just seems right, being that I contacted them first.

Good luck.

Love your website.

My guestimate is $1400 based on the price they paid for the .org

Good luck with it :)

Can you please copy & paste this exact email exchange, including times (but feel free to fill in "Two-Swedish-Words", as necessary). :gl: :talk:

Thanks kindly.

Jeff, I'd prefer to not disclose this at this stage. Let's just say that the exchange is friendly and professional, I signed my full name, the WhoIs is public. No shady stunts.

My original guess was 0 because the two of you could not agree on price. 0 guess is already taken - so I'll say $1500.

This is very unlikely. I have a history of selling .com versions to foreign non-profits (Israeli educational portal (.co.il, .org), British micro-car enthusiast club (.co.uk, .org), etc.) in $250-$350 range (given that I got it for a reg fee or a drop fee) without much negotiation.
This case is different since I know for sure what they paid for .org, otherwise I would've dumped it for a couple hundred.

I'm guessing that they are going to start out with a low offer like $250.

How do you know that they purchased it ... for $650? :talk:

I completely respect your rights to privacy, Leo ... and I think the world of you and wish you the very best with this and all of your domain name sale / ventures! :talk:
However, with the limited information provided thus far, I cannot accurately assess the current situation enough to give you an educated number or range, IMHO. :guilty:

... BUT I would like to add another 100 NP$'s to your kitty for the eventual winner! :yell:

Is that coolio? :music:
Thanks, and all the best!

Mucho coolio. And ... you've just nailed it in the head with your passage. I'll PM you the details (including the domain) under the following terms:

1. You add 100NP$ to the pot.
2. You're out of competition.
3. You keep these details private.

Agreed?

I would first keep talking with them and try to understand if they know the importance of the .com over the .org (consider that they are a non-profit organization aswell). Once you see that they know the value of .com over .org then maybe you could decide and speak in numbers with them.
I would not point too high and scare them actually, if you can find history of how long they have went in negotiation with the .org would be really good, that way you would understand if they really care investing in other TLD's or no.
I would point at $1500 and leaving some space to drop the price, or leave some space that would force them to offer you a price (lower one ofcorse), if you sell it on $1300-$1400 it would be a good go for you (especially if that domain is of no use for you and it does not have traffic or generate revenue).
Yet, its a little hard to negotiate before you really understand the buyer at least a little, to see how important for them is that (consider the fact that .net and .eu are free and they aren't registering them, or haven't thought to register the domain on those TLDs).

Just my 2 cents.

Sending 200 NP$'s to you now to add to the KITTY (300 NP$'s) ... and your PM contents will be held in the highest level of confidence, IMHO.

Thanks, and Good Luck to you (and to all members who are participating in the thread)!

Added: "200.00 namebucks donated to Midano successfully!"

Thanks Jeff.
You shouldn't have sent any NP$ now since there's no guarantee that the name will be sold. I might end up sending them back to you.
PMing now.
