Need urgent advice! How do I catch a dropping domain?

The domain name is currently in redemption period and the registrar at which the domain expired is INTERCOSMOS MEDIA GROUP, INC. D/B/A DIRECTNIC.COM.

The domain is the name of a friend (like firstnamelastname.com) and for personal reasons I would prefer not to say it...

This is correct. If the name is relatively uncommon, you could place a backorder on the domain at GoDaddy for $18.99. GoDaddy will attempt to capture the domain as soon as it drops and will most likely succeed.

But if we're talking a common name, you will need to use a more heavy-duty backorder service. PM me and I'll help you out.

you can register with snapnames etc for free, but they charge you 60 bucks once the name is successfully acquired.

I suggest you place a back order with multiple registrars. Snap.com ($60) , enom.com ($30) and pool.com ($60) would increase probability. However you must remember that this is more like auction and chances are that you may end up paying much more than advertised prices.

if recently expired check namejet and snap for "pre-release". If 30+ days expired, any good dropcatching service will get the name (snap, namejet or pool).
