Good morning everyone!

Yesterday I sent out about 15 e-mails to potential end-users of a domain that I own. One responded already as follows:

"Thanks for your e-mail. How much are you expecting."

I'm new to the end-users domain sales arena. What would be the best way to respond? Should I respond with a firm offer or negotiable? Should I explain the payment/transfer process? Should I "talk up" the domain some more?

A sample "template" e-mail reply would be great. Thanks for your help!

I don't have a template, but I will say be realistic. If your domain is something marginal don't blow it by asking $15K.

I've received appraisal feedback on this forum that the domain is worth somewhere between mid $XXX and $XX,XXX so that doesn't help too much for pricing! I paid mid $XXX for it though so I won't go under $X,XXX.

The response was from a wholeseller of products related to the key word. Since my last post, I have received another response from a potential end-user. I should probably reply to both of them by the end of the day so any help would be greatly appreciated!

It is difficult to gauge what to ask if I don't know the domain, word tracker, keyword demand, etc. If you want to PM more details I will help you out.

I would start somewhere around $5K for that name. It might be on the high side, but it is within reason to an interested end user.

Sounds good, I'll go with mid $X,XXX. And, what is the best way to present this offer? Do I just state the offer and that's it? Or should I try to justify the price? Should I explain the transfer process?

I would try to just point out the good aspects. Real word, google results, other extensions taken. I would also try to present similar sales. From my results there is a fine balance between giving an end user valuable data, and being too pushy with a hard sale.

Dont send "please buy this name from me" emails until you first have a price expectation

some names you really want to move so you price them low

if you feel you can get others intrested in the name too, you step up the price

if you get a feel that this is the only person that you can get intrested in the name you lower the price.

if the person seems REAL intrested you bring up the price.

if your dealing with the big boss of a company will $, the price goes up.

In other words you got to do it by feel

Price it too high and you usally get nothing, if its your first sale you might want to go low just to get cash coming back in.

Please critique my draft response:

Dear XXX,

Thank you for your response. I am asking $X,XXX USD for Kniv.com.

Here are some factors to consider as you make your decision:

1. "Kniv" is a generic, popular, short, marketable, commercialized name in three countries (Sweden, Denmark, and Norway).
2. All other major extensions (i.e. .net, .org, .se, .do, .dk, etc) are taken and .com is the most popular anyhow.
3. There are over 2.4 million Google results and almost 1,000 searches/month for this name (and related names) and it is already getting traffic.
4. There are a few other interested buyers.

It is registered with NameScout.com and does not need renewal until 7/18/2009. Here are some recent purchases of international webnames for you to compare:

Exito.com ("Success" in Spanish) - $121,560
Relatiegeschenk.nl ("business gifts" in Dutch) - $111,347
Annonces.fr ("advertisements" in French) - $47,361
Manicure.info ("manicure" in French) - $46,217
Voeding.nl ("food" in Dutch) - $15,878
Immobilienmakler.biz ("real estate broker" in German) - $13,152

Would you like to make an offer for Kniv.com?

Best Regards,

XXX

Maybe put the price last? or maybe not even mentioning it

They probally dont care about Immobilienmakler.biz, maybe just stick with the name for sale. I would drop the international name part

Once you mention traffic they will want you to prove the traffic stats, and if they are not high the deal might be over. So think about weather you want to bring that subject up.

Saying there other buyers is kinda tisting there arm,

I would cut this in halft, I personally would say that i am looking for offer in a cxertain range, and try to fish out more info from the buyer
