Hi everyone, since I do not have someone to consult with, i'd appreciate any thought given!

TenderSound (com) - brandable
AttachBIG (com) - brandable
CashRemedy (com) brandable
SocialFeed (info) - nice metrics
Wepty (com) - brandable

I'm really trying to understand the brandables niche haha..

Thank you for your time!

Hi, I have seen varied meaning of 'brandables' but most I see is that 'brandables' means meaningless one worders - meaning that you can just use them and brand them for anything. I would compare 'brandable' to 'keyword domains' which means that either one or both components convey a meaning and are typically used to represent what they are used for.

Above names seem to be more 'keyword domains' as all of them except last one (Wepty.com) convey a meaning. The best test to see the popularity of a keyword domain is
i) Can you fit both the constituent word in a sentence, a sentence that is grammatically correct and make sense. So try to see if you can frame such sentences and in how many context
ii) If you are successful in the step above, find out the 'domains' (means the areas) where your name can potentially be used. More 'domains' you can use your name in, better it is. Meaning if it is generic - more value, more 'domains', more potential applications, more buyers
iii) Do a search in google, putting both of the words in double quotes, like for "Attachbig.com" I would put "attach big" - Check how many results you find. 50,000 results - it is decent, 100,000 is good (you cannot go wrong). But please see if the results are in what context - are they in any business context (I would not give value to the words used in casual conversations, e.g. I am gonna (and if you have domain name - iamgonna.com - no one cares how many hundreds of thousands of results google returns). The reason is that if you plan to sell it (and every domainer should think that way), no business is going to name such a name as their business name. Businesses are the one who are going to buy your name.

Lastly, when you look at the name, you have to ask yourself a question

Would you run a business of your own under the name you have?

If you cannot come up with a good 2/3 good business uses, I would say - it was not the best buying decision you made.

Additionally, I would not value too much for non .com's - there is a mighty good chance that .com site for your name exists, if not, it will exist one day and you will just help drive the traffic to their name.

Hope my note helps.
Best

Thank you very much for your detailed comment!
Great points you mentioned, and as for most of the domains listed above - they do not reach 50k-100k on search engine results.. So it might be a little harder for me!

Thanks for the another perspective!

I think namecept put some very good points out there which are worth to follow. That being said brandable market is world on its own and it is rather difficult to grasp IMHO.

Look at Tumblr, Flickr, Twitter, Brandbucket etc, .... none of those names have shown high metrics before the business launched.

When I look for brandables I look on 3 fronts.

Short and pronounceable without any negative connotation (Wepty is decent example IMHO)

2 words meaningful combination with positive vibe (TenderSound might work IMHO)

Hacks of positive words (Fiver, Superious)

To give you more ideas here are some BB sales from Michael Krell who focuses on brandables

R A I S E L Y
S A F E T H I N G S
C R O W D B O A R D
M O D U R O
Q U A T R I N O
S T A T L Y
E X A C T L Y R I G H T
W O R K I N G C R O W D
C E R T U P
S T A R T H I V E

Hope this helps and good luck.

That is a good point too. So on what base do you make the decision of purchasing the domain or not?
I mean, if it is generally a good brandable domain, Does it mean the domain will sell eventually?
How can you predict it will bring you profit?

Well it is always number game, you will never sell every domain, actually better statement is you likely sell only fraction of your domains for good price. With brandables you have to find which domains are good and which bad by looking on the marketplaces and reading posts on forums. Check BrandBucket Experience for more info. Then you will likely end up with about 50% acceptance rate and about 5-10% will actually sell. With average profit lets say 1000$ per domain you might spend about 200+ dollars on registrations of names which do not sell. If you are good your profit will be higher if bad .... well. Just understand that not everybody has eye for brandables.

To add to above about brandables - brandables have no meaning, they are just letters put together in literal sense, and there are tons (Literally tons) of Brandables around - what user likes is everyone's guess. Guess the deciding factor for selling a brandable would be the price after having met the basic requirement that it is pronounceable).

Aren't these names regfee domains ? I mean, they were registered while they were available because better options were already taken. Perhaps not twitter.
In fact, Flickr ended up buying flicker.com and it's not the only one such example... proof that the domains weren't too great in the first place, they are confusing and leaking traffic.

There is a market for brandable domains, but not all of them.
Going brandable is one way of getting a domain that is quite unique, and evading the second market.
