Find a niche that you enjoy. What do you like? Investing, Fitness, Poetry, Fashion, Cooking, Cleaning, etc. It can even be something around a job you do on a day to day basis. Have you had any problems that you have solution to? What did you do? e.g. reusing empty plastic bottles to create decorators, etc.
Some niche are very difficult to rank for such as investing, weight loss, etc. as they are too saturated. You can do some free searches on youtube on how to find keywords for blogging or use the free version of neil patels ubersuggest tool for starting. I believe you need a gmail account. I have not used paid version so cannot comment.
You will not make money overnight. It takes months and months and even years to build a small amount of traffic.
Quality content is king. No spinning articles, posting them on blog and hoping for readers to come read. Article you write does not need to be perfect - you do not need to spend hours and hours on top trying to make it 100% because it will never be perfect. You can always modify articles after publishing. The main goal is it should communicate a solution and engage the reader.

Expired domains with good backlinks and authority gives you an advantage but make sure they are not from blacklisted sites or the website itself was not used for spam. In my opinion, you should start fresh for a blog as wordpress articles are indexed daily and easily on google.
