In 1997, there was a big discussion around NASA.COM. See WIRED

Since that date, all nasa domain names have been registrated, many for personnal use, without any sue from the US government.

Is it normal ?

Nearly all U.S. government entities, run their sites from the .gov TLD. Nasa Included. Its actually rare for government to hold and use .com's.

Pentagon.com
HUD.com
CIA.com
FBI.com

I do know that the USPS is one exception that does run on the .com - however, most of the rest are all .gov

If they are being used for so many years I suppose that is normal.

They have the .gov but it redirects to the .com...
