Below is a screenshot of an expired domain auction from yesterday.

First time I see reserve on expired domains at NameSilo, and I didn't see this discussed anywhere.

What are your thoughts?

You can at least theoretically search for auctions that do not have a reserve.

Thank you, but I'm confused. Why was a reserve introduced to expired domains auctions? Would love to read their announcement to understand their logic

Example?

There are 0 results when we search for expired with reserve.

They always had some sort of reserve but it was shown as the opening bid amount.

The people running NS are trying to extract the very most they can from dropping domains and its allready turned alot of people away from them.

They make it too convoluted and has the opposite effect of less instead of more buyers in the pool.

Greed isn't pretty. I miss the orginal NS.

100% Agree. They did have an opening reserve but this doesnt seem to be like it. It is a new column in the bids showing reserve not met...

Either these reserves are a bug or their filters have a bug.

Maybe try to contact them to ask about it?

Yep I also suspect (and hope) it's just a bug

What happens if the reserve isn't met, does it fall back into the registration pool?

sometimes greed is not a choice but necessary to survive. I doubt ns is doing so hot profit wise.

I don't know if this is the same but there's a lot of expiring domains that are not at $1+renewal. Here's an expiring domain with a $1712.10 opening bid and 0 bids.

https://www.namesilo.com/auctions/ZmRmAQZ0ZmHmBQZ2ZmNmBD==p7r6q856523rsp84n1123r686pn8o4qr/view

and another for $285

https://www.namesilo.com/auctions/ZmRmAQZ0ZmxmAwZlZmRmZt==1r4o460o60r906635n302q6p2q0036q2/view

In the past I'd say $2 or $3 instead of $1 and that was no big deal. I don't want either of these domains, I just happened to see them.

This must be some type of system error?

Either way I've been staying away from NameSilo expired auctions - Low quality names for not so low quality bidding
