As i said, I did submit some unregistered names to BrandBucket, (literally maybe 5 - 10 unregistered names) over two years ago (when I was very new to domaining BTW. I still consider myself new.), primarily as a test to see if the site would allow it. I would never want to submit unregistered names because of the risk of losing them. The ethics of it I actually never considered, probably because it was a one time thing. This was never a practice and as Margot can probably attest, I was never one who submitted tons of useless names to the site. I may have submitted 10 names a week or so. And as I read in here, I was never a leader in the amount of listed names, but I was probably up there with the amount of sold ones for short time I was there.
Actually I just logged into my old BB account. When I told Margot to remove all my listings, I had 60 listed names and 20 sold names. Having sold 25% of my listed names in less than 1.5 years (during their beginning years mind you), I'd say it shows I was very selective in what I submitted, since I put research behind the names that I decided to register.
Sorry if you took it the wrong way, but I was never in any practice of doing anything unethical. Submitting the unregistered names was part of my R&D for the plans I had for Brandroot. I was testing tons of stuff. I was actually blown away when some of the unregistered names were accepted. I didn't understand how that was possible or how the name even got through.
Also I am very confused by some people saying that submitting unregistered names will cause your registered names to be denied? Where does this idea come from? I don't think either Margot or Zane would ever be so unprofessional as to deny names only because there are too many to review. That sounds very ridiculous. If anything, it only adds to your wait time. Why would they want to pass up a good name because there are a lot of names to review? Seems like some people are taking this subject extremely overboard. I guess you can argue that it's unethical but bashing anyone for it is quite extreme.
Also, some people do things by mistake, like the creator of this thread, not thinking if the actions are ethical or not. He posted this question very openly, completely unaware of it being unethical to most of you. Obviously he learned something here just as I have. This thread helped shed light on why it is unethical to do such things, so it's a good source for new domainers (like myself, who has only been domaining for a few years.).
