As some of you are aware, I've managed a shared ownership domain name buyers group here at NamePros for the past nearly two years with very few new members being added during that time. We have a close knit group that has made a lot of shared purchases during that time.

We are ready to expand the group to a bigger size and are now accepting applications for new members to join our group.

More information ----

The group was start here with this thread and have continued with a small core group that has purchased some nice names in the time. The goal is to pool money together to share purchase prices of premium names. With the downturn in the market, the opportunity for finding good deals is only increasing.

Our group buys started by participating in SnapNames auctions but have since moved away and focus mostly on finding good names on the aftermarket. Here is an overview that our group used to help us govern group rules.

We have use private forums on NamePros to track shared ownership of our Internet properties and stay in touch mostly through a Skype text chat conference.

The NamePros Domain Name Buyers Group is going to be reorganized and opening our group to new members. The buy in is currently set at $750, however this may be lowered to $500 to make it more accessible.

If fractional ownership of premium domains is something that interests you, please express your interest by submitting an application to join from the group membership page here:
http://www.namepros.com/profile.php?do=editusergroups

I'll be contacting you within the next few weeks with further information.

Questions are welcome here in this thread!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Sounds interesting especially if the price is lowered to $500. Missed this the first go-around.

How is the return of investment of previous member? Interest to hear experiences shared by current members.

There aren't too many big profit stories from our original group yet although we hold some nice names now. In general our current buys have been with the goal of a 300% return. Every group member decides on each individual purchase if they want to participate in the buy or pass.

I think moving forward with a larger group we will involve more "quick flip" type of situations where we profit less on a shorter hold.

I've certinly found it worthwile. I now have a share in some really great names and have benefitted from the expertise of other members.

Here's an example of some of the names I have part ownership in through the buyers group:

1-1.com
qi.net
gyrate.com
politics.info

we've sold several names so far including belgium.info and horoscope.biz all making a decent profit.

Right now the group's portfolio is mostly oriented towards long-hold investments with $xxx.xxx in the pool so far. We do realize that we need more day-to-day buy/flip activity. Also, we need to get a few development projects rolling.

I feel something is definitely there in for me. And I am fedup of buying mutual funds that always goes for market correction the very next day I buy it. Domains are 1000 times better then that.

RJ,
I have a question in terms of conflict of interests. I have been spending a lot of money on namejet and snapnames on my own. If I join this group and discuss on the same name that I myself interested in owning it, how do I resolve the conflict of interest?

It tends to work the other way, usually members post the names they are bidding on and anyone in the group has the option of partnering in on it if they wish.

If the name was presented to the group for bidding before the member declared he wanted to do sole bidding, the member would not be able to bid against the group for the name, and vise versa.

To clarify: If a member presents a name to the group, he has the option to ask for no competition from the group, or to open up the name to the group for shares if desired.

We tend to post "Private Bidding Lists" to prevent bidding against each other or against the group, thus driving the price up. Works on honor basis.

Depends.... read http://www.domainnamegroup.com/overview.html

"the group member who proposes the purchase is guaranteed right to purchase up to a minimum 33% share in the ownership of it. "

So if there is a lot of interest in a name you've proposed to the group, you may only get to buy 33% of the shares.

Multiple domains is not a problem. Wouldn't be that fun of a group if you were only allowed to buy shares in one name!
