Hello, i got a question about NameJet private auction on a backordered domain.

Question:
If the current bid is $500. And i bid $1000. And i win. Do i pay $1000 or $510?
Follow up:
When i bid $1000 do everyone else see $1000 or do they see $510?


I ask because it seems ALL bids are proxy bids.
I expect the answers to be $510 and that others see that. But i need to be sure.

Question 2:
Also, there's no sniping as far as i understood, if someone bids in the last 5 mins the auction will be extended, but for how long? Their docs don't mention it.

1) you pay 510, everyone sees 510.
2) 5 minutes or something like this, I do not remember exactly. If a new bid is placed during the extended time, 5 minutes start again.

I checked the Whois of the domain and ithe registrar is now "NamePal".
is it normal? I was hoping NameJet or SnapNames since they are auctioning it.

It's normal, namejet has agreement with many registrars and sells their domains.

acutally you need to be careful. If you are bidding on pre-release (i.e. it has not entered active auction stage) then you will actually be bidding $1000. If it has got to the ~3 day active auction phase then yes it is a proxy bid and you are bidding only to the point where you are beating the previous bidder + minimum bid increment.

Also be aware that (and I know I'm stating the obvious but just incase) if you place a 1000 dollar proxy and the bidder that placed the 500 dollar bid was also a proxy for say 900 then you'll pay 910.

Don't worry, if it wasn't an end user who puts a website on it, it might have been bought by someone for price discovery, and then could be relisted in 6 months in the same venue. lol.
