I'm transferring a domain out of Namecheap. After I made the transfer request at the other registrar, Namecheap emailed me, saying (among other things): "If you want to SPEED UP the transfer, please go to our website."

I went to the website and found no way to speed up the transfer. So I chatted with support, who told me that no, there's no way to speed it up. Very disappointing that a) I can't do anything to move the transfer along (an option that many other registrars offer) and b) their email gave me bad info.

If you received the transfer confirmation email, there should normally be an option to expedite the transfer. Please send us your domain name or chat/email ID in a DM so we can check your case.

”website” should be a link:

I don’t know if it matters, but I make sure I’m logged in when I press the link.

It looks like Namecheap has changed its Whois privacy service. It used to have an address in Iceland. Now it is in Delaware.

Yes, the “Withheld for Privacy” service is transferring operations from Iceland to Delaware, US. Your anonymized email address will remain unchanged, so you don't need to do anything to keep your contact information protected.

I've used Namecheap for years but they have just severely disappointed me. My wife searched for a domain name for a business venture we are starting and it was available. Next day we went to purchase it and suddenly it is owned by Spaceship and they want $125,000 for it. I checked on Reddit and it seems that other people have been experiencing this too. Then I found out that Namecheap bought Spaceship and suddenly it all makes sense. I will be changing my domains to a more trustworthy company.

We want to be absolutely clear - we don’t track domain searches or register domains based on what customers search for. Domain availability can change in real time as domains are registered by others. If you’re interested in a domain, we recommend registering it as soon as possible while it’s available.

Registrars frequently* display domain availabilities incorrectly. This is not very robustly built industry. Bad systems, not bad actors.

* or sometimes, doesn't really matter because every time "next-day" registration attempts fail, you can read about conspiratorial interpretations on Reddit etc.

I'm assuming that is the case, because you didn't say anything about checking when the domain was registered. Of course it's also possible that it was just registered. Most people think alike, and if something good is available now, it may not be available for long when there is only one item available. A lack of the feeling of urgency is actually quite mind-boggling.

And in all probability the domain is not owned by Spaceship. Someone, most likely a domain investor has put it for sale on their aftermarket platform, and probably on some others too (so it may be purchasable on GoDaddy etc).

(btw, Namecheap didn't buy Spaceship, Spaceship has been NC's subsidiary company from the start)
