So today I noticed trying to get the auth code of a expired domain at namecheap doesnt work, so I got onto their live chat:
Christina: As I can see the domain name has already expired.
Christina: Unfortunately, we do not allow to transfer expired domain out from Namecheap.
Dean: sounds like a scam
Dean: i have transfered out expired domains from about 10 different other registrars for years
Christina: Due to our system security restrictions, the Auth/EPP code cannot be sent when the domain has expired.
Christina: You will need to renew the domain first and only after that you can transfer it out.
Dean: no
Dean: this is a breach of the ICANN policy
Dean: i will be submitting a complaint
Christina: Please let me see what I can do for you.
Dean: thanks
Christina: You are most welcome!
Christina: As the domain has expired I will need to contact our upstream provider with a request to send the Auth code of the domain name to the current registrants email address for the domain.
And a few minutes later the auth code is on its way. Funny how those "system security restrictions" disappeared real quick.
Moral of the story, don't let registrars try give you this BS.
