If you have the opportunity (and money) to build your own small marketplace for your domains, and add some logos to it and so on, would you do it instead of using sedo or Domain Name sales?
I think that Logos given a better chance... also, with only your domains being cross sold instead of others, then you have a better chance?
I think its a very low probability that someone would buy your domain if it has no type-ins from a marketplace like sedo, unless its a very good one. While if its listed on your maketplace and one of your domains drive some traffic, the less typedin ones will have a decent chance in a sale..
Less crowded marketplace, more direct communication with the buyers.

I think this is how huge domains makes money, its more about cross selling other domains than directly selling the ones typed in.

Any thoughts?

Do both.

One thing to remember about doing it yourself is that some of the risk will then fall in your hands. You can either do it yourself and use PayPal (which is higher risk, and costs a fee) or use a third party Escrow (like Escrow.com) and you still end up paying fees. The other option is to use someplace like Sedo and they handle the Escrow for you, but also take a fee. Basically, no matter how you look at it you'll be paying fees. You might be able to cut them down some, but then you're just putting that much more risk into your own hands.. For me personally, I'd rather list them in as many marketplaces as possible - But pick one to park at and let them handle the Escrow stuff. It might be one thing if you had a huge portfolio like HugeDomains and could fill up an entire category-based website yourself, but for most people I think third-part marketplaces are best.

Mine are listed at Sedo, Afternic, DomainNameSales etc... but all domains redirect to my own sales pages with my own non obtrusive ads on them instead of parking. I don't interlink them though as I don't like showing my hand. Once I receive a lead, name, email, phone, ip, offer, etc... direct then I'll bounce some alternative choices to them as all data based so can do a quick search by category or keyword.

So I use one script to database my market site privately and another script for the sales pages. So the sales pages bring the leads and then I tap into my database to give them a handful of choices/price ranges. I send everything through Escrow.com and the buyer pays the fees.

Direct leads make negotiations easier over blind negotiations.

Cross promoting works I just prefer waiting for an individual offer from an individual sales page and then presenting them with alternate choices/alternate prices over having my whole portfolio 100% visible to anyone that lands on my site as it eliminates tire kickers/price checkers.

Logos may make them look nicer but unlikely an end user would actually use the logo you created as if they have end user money more than likely they will invest in a nice logo as well.

So I would say list at the big markets and if you wanna try your own market give it a shot and just do some A/B testing to see which venue provides the best results. Use Sedo for a few months, use your own site for a few months etc... Obviously the quality of domains will be the biggest factor to the amount of leads generated.
