If this thread is inappropriate, please move or close...

A former business colleague of mine (let us call him Joe) tonight obtained access to my GMail account. He sends some messages via GMail Chat to people, and sends me this email:

Your pretty dumb, rofl.

I like your emails :)

I replied threatening a lawsuit. He denies admitting anything. I have sent e-mails to GMail abuse, and am awaiting a reply.

Any suggestions?

Forgot to mention...I changed my passcode everywhere I can recall to do so...

Perhaps belongs in http://www.namepros.com/legal-issues-and-disputes/

It's interesting he didn't say "liked" your emails which would imply that he has already read priveledged communications. Depending on the severity / sensitivity of anything he allegedly saw I would take action accordingly. I'm not sure if google would have records of logins or if they would release that information without some sort of court order, subpoena, etc.

Wish you the best with whatever course of actions you take

I dont want to move it there because this doesnt concern domains :P

However, I do think that this is a threat to trademarked intellectual property...I am considering going to court. Anyone know if I can as a minor?

Anyone?

i think you may need to sign off with a parent/guardian to take legal action

Well, lets assume for a moment that I do that...I am suing another minor...does that make a difference? Just as a side question...

If you think you can get anything out of a minor, more power to ya. You could probably get farther by having a lawyer call his parents.

What would you be suing him for? What kind of relief would you seek? You need to prove that you suffered some kind of damage from his actions. A civil lawsuit might not accomplish anything worthwhile. Perhaps he violated a criminal law (not sure which) and you could press charges with local law enforcement, but even then its probably not worth your time.

Just change all your passwords, make sure he hasn't edited any personal details and don't give out your passwords to anyone.

There's no point making a mountain out of a molehill.

i agree with Tom....Just change your password and be done with it....Legally there really isn't anything you can do...slander at the worst...and that wont hold water in court.

Along the same lines, watch South park episode "Scott Tenorman must die" for inspiration :yell:

Sorry, havent had access to my email for a day or so and forgot about this thread...

I have intellectual data in that account worth millions, as well as cpanel emails with passcodes. All passwords have been changed, but I was looking through my trash email last night, and he poorly discarded records of forewarded emails with such information...The intellectual data is projected to be worth 2.3 mil usd within two years, so this is a very big issue. I have been as polite as possible, and at this point, that means that I have said 'f**k you' quite a few times...
