Just a post 'cause I'm a tad excited about my first day of 100+ visitors. My site movienarc.com is still pretty new, but it quickly got up to 100 visitors. :kickass:

Congrats. Just make sure it's not a one-time spike and you're down to 20 per day again tomorrow or something. Getting 50 visitors all the time is better than getting 100 on one day and not getting many at all on other days.

I've had an extreme spike (300 / day => 10K - 20K day) for a few days this month and looking at the logfile analysis charts is now a bit depressing because I'm not sure if I can ever get back to those figures again.

One reason for spikes could be:

Say, your site is opened by a student at a school one day in the computer lab and he shows it to his friends and all may open it immediately and try again and again on the same day. I observed that happen to one of my sites.

Now, to keep those numbers to grow, it may require to have wider audience increasing day by day.

my 2 cents.

I find that you get a spike, then it slides back down over the next day or two to a few more than you used to get.

Then it will hold steady at that new average until the next spike.

I could elaborate further on it but it would take too much time. Just enjoy it, and use your web stats to find out where it came from.

Chances are you can't use the same site that had referred you for the spike, but you could use it for other site you have.

This is definitely true. I get 8 - 10 times more visitors now than before the spike. I can't wait for the next one. :hehe:

I designed it and paid NP$ to have the design turned into a WordPress theme (Momo did the translation).

word of moth is a great way to get spikes... I had a 50,000 hit day one day, that spiked from a meleisly 400 uniques. I felt that this was wrong so i check my referrer report. Turns out a hosting directory featured me for the day!

Lots of talk about spikes here, very interesting.

I don't think my 100+ visitors was one. I've been creeping up to it, had a few days in the 90s. God...what I'd do for 50,000 visitors!

Do search engine bots generate unique views? Sometimes some of my sites get traffic spikes, and when I check the logs a see a lot of "googlebot.." or "msnbot..". But then the next few weeks I actually start seeing traffic from those search engines. Then it dies off, and the bot returns.. I guess as the bot indexes other pages my pages get ranked down, by the time it returns it ranks it up again.

I love traffic spikes.

I would also like to say congrats! My site is building up to that now, I only have about an average of 40 uniques a day I would say. Good job anyways!
