My experience with Sedo vs Afternic

I have basically been ignoring both Sedo & Afternic for my domain sales, but about 2 weeks ago I updated my listings on both Sedo and Afternic.

To date (in the last two weeks) I've had 3 inquiries from Afternic and none from Sedo. OK. I haven't made any sales yet. But it seems to me that Afternic are trying quite hard. I've had personal conversations (albeit limited) on all those inquiries with their sales reps.

Just my 2 cents worth sharing my current experience with both.

I prefer Sedo for ease of transactions. How do Afternic handle transactions? Do they have a secure transfer service such as Sedo? After all how do you receive payments? Check and wire only? Or PayPal accepted?

They have secure process like Sedo. They have a full range of payment methods, including PayPal.

Worth mentioning that they also have a buy-it-now system in place with some partner registrars called AfternicDLS. similar to SedoMLS.

Has anyone tried that?

@stub - Was it listed with a BIN or not? Also, did it have Premium promotion turned on or not?

it is working. that could be a typing error. Try googling and click from search result. If it still posting error, then problem is a DNS issue from your side.

No all my domains are make offer, so premium promotion isn't allowed.

They have a 'new look' now, and most likely it's not yet working with all browser types. It can take Afternic some time to fix usability :) Try switching from one browser to another, it can sort the problem out. I think I had the same in the past.

I just got an offer from Sedo for the minimum price I set on a domain. They say the offer came via GoDaddy. Their fee is 20%.

I think both Sedo & Afternic are promoting my make offer domains through their premium network, despite the fact that the domains are supposed to be fixed price to use this service. If I'm not mistaken.

Yes. It is definitely listed on GoDaddy with my minimum offer amount. It is not in my Selling List. Does the 20% give any clues as to which service this is on Sedo?

I just checked the 20% is for Sedo MLS sales which are supposed be fixed price sales. Or has that changed?

Yes, Sedo announced they are feeding all listings to Godaddy including make offer. And charging 20%.

I also cannot get into Afternic's site, I get the home page after a long wait, but no further. Completely useless on Firefox. Will try IE.

I listed all my domains with Afternic a couple months ago, not a hint of activity. Mine are fixed price, 15% commission.

I can get into Afternic without any issues using FireFox 17.0

Do Afternic still charge a yearly fee, or have they scrapped that?

I don't think I've paid a subscription to Afternic in years.

Ah.

Yes, I sort of have a habit of dipping in and out of domaining. :D
