I tried to join Namecheap, but the female who "helped" me, and unfortunately looked like a wannabe Kardashian told me I could not sell my domain name--MarryARussian.com--unless I changed its registrar from
WildWestDomains to Namecheap's registrar. Is that usual (or unusual) practiceS?

They have a small marketplace for names regged or transferred within their registrar only so a push can be done and charge 10% commission.

If you want the most exposure list at least at Sedo and GoDaddy. With GoDaddy you have to pay to join the marketplace if the domain is elsewhere.

You can also try selling it here at NP.

Yes, it's usual. By having the domain at the registrar whose marketplace you're listing the domain for sale on, you not only give confidence to the buyer that they will get their name after paying but also get paid faster. This eliminates a lot of hassle on the registrar's part, as well. You can easily find many horror stories on namepros about how people pay for domains through GoDaddy, Afternic or even Sedo, only to never receive their domains, because the seller had the domain elsewhere.
