Music Playback Skips/Stutters

I'd really like to do everything I can short of buying a new sound card. All I want to do is play music through iTunes, but it tends to skip and stutter every so often. I also noticed this problem in Rhapsody (but not in Rhapsody 2, just the new Rhapsody 3) so I'm also thinking it might be a RAM issue since Rhapsody 2 worked and was a lot less intense than Rhaposdy 3 or iTunes 5.0...

Someone suggested I go into task manager and make the priority on iTunes higher and the priority on Firefox lower (these are usually the only two programs I run) but this didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Nope, I've already tried that... I'm convinced its a problem with my sound card but I really don't want to go out and get a new one, I'm wondering if there are any settings I can change in the system that will help it play without skipping (even if at a lower quality).

It's not the player, its something in my system or soundcard that is running too slow to keep up with the music, even when the buffer is at the lowest speed possible, so I'm wondering if there are any settings I can tweak somewhere on my computer to fix this.

Why dont you want to spend $30? Thats all a decent sound card would cost.

Because this isn't my permanent computer, I'm waiting for my new laptop to get here and then I won't use this one anymore.

i dont understand why your worried about it then If i had a new laptop coming, and my current one is messing up, id pay extra to get the laptop to me faster. lol

Because I'm at college... and its kind of annoying not to be able to listen to music while in your room
