I was watching the Los Angeles Lakers go into AZ and spoil Shaq's debut as a Sun tonight. At the end of a commercial advertising a new movie, I noticed that they were using a .tv name. While I did not catch the movie's name (hopefully someone will see a commercial soon and post here), my friends said something about it. "Isn't that the new domain extension that is getting a lot of attention and the one you write about?" Educating them...one at a time. :D

Cool! Only if all the new release movies use the .tv extention, that'd be great. :)

I saw it too. I'm in LA also, but I was on my 5th pint or so at that point so I can't remember the either.

It was a short 2-word name, and I thought to myself, they just couldn't afford the .com and the XXXXmovie.com was squatted on...

BlahBlahBlahMovie.com

You know, this is just my opinion..........and most of you won't like it.

For Movies, I personally see really no benefit to using .tv. In fact, in my opinion, it is confusing. People are looking for information on a Movie going to the theatre, and they are directed to a tv site.

To joe blow consumer, who drinks beer, and has 2.3 kids, they might decide that means that the movie was going to be on tv, and not out in the theatres. From a business marketing perspective, the producers want to drive ticket sales in the theatres and this could be counterproductive to that.

I know and understand it is great exposure for tv, I don't disagree with that in any way. But if I owned a production company and my web guys were buying tv domains to advertise movies going into the theatre, they wouldn't be working for me for much longer.

Sorry, I know you all will completely bash me for daring to say this.

The truth is, when I read the OP, my first thought was, "Is it a made-for-TV movie?"

At this stage of the game, I don't think there's any denying that the general public is going to be inclined to associate .tv sites with TV products (shows, movies, etc.). It seems to me this is the great challenge of the extension: how to capitalize on the massive appeal and familiarity of TV while not getting pigeonholed by it.

That's in part why these sort of efforts to both increase and broaden exposure to the .tv "brand" are so laubable and important. It's all about pushing the envelope... :imho:

Not bashing you(nor tapping on your snout ever so lightly with a rolled up newspaper, either), but depending on how much beer JB is drinking and how long it takes him to make those 2.3 kids(with or without Viagra), I seriously doubt that he will be confused with a .tv extension, especially if he is watching wrestling as he may be prone to do on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights.

As a matter of fact, as a qualified couch potato, he very well may be familiar with the term TV and not confused between the difference between a living room(his, preferably) and a movie theatre(or theater for that matter). Movies may not confuse him either, but again it does depend on his total consumption.

And I also see why you do not own a production company as well, as no one would be courageous enough to take a chance in marketing outrageously with you, fearing success at the cost of reprisals.

Have a great evening Bulldog, and have a drink on me! :hehe:
