Mouse Problem: Got A Fix?

OK, I use Windows ME with a generic PS2 mouse. Often when I click on a link or button, the mouse cursor will "freeze" for several seconds (sometimes as long as 30 seconds) before it releases and completes the click. Any ideas what's happening here?

I've tried changing mice, scanning for spyware, etc. A reboot will solve the problem for awhile but eventually it happens again.

These cold meds are making me sleepy  so I've been too lazy to Google a fix.. hoping someone here has encountered the same problem!

That happens to me sometimes too. Press crtl alt delete and then go to the processes tab. See if anything is hogging all your computer's memory and if it is, end that process

You sure it is the mouse and not your computer trying to process the click?

I've tried the CTRL-ALT-DEL to check running tasks and nothing, scanned for spyware, etc.

No idea if it's the mouse or comp, but it only hangs when I click the mouse, or sometimes the Enter key

Doing a virus scan now..

This is a problem that happened with windows ME, its nothing that was ever fixed, windows rushed the development of windows ME, they were not ready for windows 2000 to be published, so they pretty much through it together, sold it cheap, and people bought it... then they released windows 2000 which was the better os...

I'd suggest getting windows 98, or 2000 and maybe even XP if you can. Windows Me has nothing but bad results unfortunalty :( (i know from personal experience back in the day, i have had this problem, and it was the os.)

Your first problem is using Windows Mistake Edition. Try the following solutions:

See if you can get an updated mouse driver.
Lower the Hardware Acceleration for your Display Adapter.

If this doesn't work, you're basically SOL because you're using ME and Microsoft has actually acknowledged your exact problem in their knowledge base. Do a Google search and you'll see a LOT of people having (or had, anyways) the same problem.

This comp didn't do well with XP last time I had it installed so I dropped back to ME..

I had a feeling it might be having to do with Hardware Acce;eration and turned it down a bit.. we'll see if that cures it. Thanks!

EDIT: Seems to have worked.. thanks again..
