My 4 year old computer has a problem. The cordless Logitec mouse is not working. After turning the computer on it stops and asks for User Name, I use the mouse which is working perfectly at this point. A few seconds later when everything is fully loaded and the Desktop screen comes up the mouse freezes and does not work.

I've tried resetting the mouse and the receiver by clicking and holding down on their respective buttons simultaneously for a few seconds but nothing. I've changed the batteries as well.

When I put a mouse with a cord (PS2) it works fine together with the cordless keyboard.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem or know of a solution?

it might be your drivers for it are corrupted, try to download and re-install the drivers again. see if it's fixed.

First i thought about the batteries but you took care of that..

So, without having your machine in front of me i just can guess :)

How about the receiver is to far away from the mouse?

If this is not the case i assume something internally just went"kaputt"...4 years is a pretty darn good "time of life"

If you are adventurous enough you could open the plastic case of the receiver, i had that one time that a little soldered spot broke, but only if you want to save the 30 bucks for new equipment...:)

Good luck

The problem does not sound hardware related. Need OS version and mouse model number to assist further.

maybe just another suggest

- uninstall your mouse or remove it from device manager and then detect new hardware

- suspect there is malware that cause that mouse problem. try to scan for it.

These are the reasons because of which I hate wireless mouse and keyboards.

Anyway check these ones -

# Batteries
# Driver
# Thing which control wireless (Do not know the name of that device)

I did as you suggested above and it worked. I did not re-install the Logitec software as I don't need all those extra buttons on the mouse on this particular computer.

I also installed Ad-Aware 2008, scanned and it did detect Malware.

Everything's working fine now. :bingo: Great!!!! Thanks everyone. :tu:

BTW I have Windows XP Professional and the mouse is a Logitech MX700
