MountainPark.com is a 15 year old GEO I bought to use as a reunion site for our old mining (now ghost) town in Alberta… that site exists but under a different name now.

We get a lot of mail meant for other companies with similar names. Over 200 at last count including campgrounds, real estate, churches and so on.

After pulling our minimum prices at SEDO, today we have an offer at USD $90.00 (ninety dollars)

So what do you think? Punch it to an auction and see what happens, or counter at what price?

Thank you all for your input!

IMO it's best to counter offer with an amount you're happy to sell for. Calculate the commission and add it into the price.

Thank you. Domain Name Sales came to us with 1k a few years ago but I'm not emotionally invested in this anymore so don't have a price in mind. I'm on the fence and thought to ask here…

Is the offer from a new member?
If it's an old account then it could be a domainer making a low ball offer.

Member since 2015. LowBall regardless.

You have much higher value here - age and potential upgrade end users, zfbot there's dozens PLUS all the "mail meant for other companies with similar names." PLUS there appears to be a few locations with this name.

If this were my domain, I would counter at $2K maybe higher, just to see if you have a tire kicker or real buyer.

AND send a soft pitch email to all the companies you have received wrong email for and let them know 1) you get wrong mail for them and 2) it's NOW for sale, directing them to the sedo page

If you don't want to do the outreach, pick a counter offer you would be OK with after fees and send that back to the $90 offer buyer.

Maybe having no minimum but a stated BIN would deter lowballs away, what was your min before you changed it? Or maybe this way at least you got a lead whereas if you had a $2K BIN they never would have given you the $90 offer.

I would not go to auction without further marketing first.

There are likely other NP members who would counter much higher so bumping for more actual appraisals might be a good idea as well. Lovely name.

Thank you @usernamex. I haven't yet stripped out any duplicates but the first blow is almost 300 eMail addresses, including for those domains using "mtn" instead of "mountain"

I agree pulling the minimum likely resulted in the offer. The min was 942 but have never been in any rush so didn't think too hard on it.

True story: A few years ago we got a phone call from a relative of one of the similarly named Mountain Park companies YELLing that we had stolen the name…

This is so weird to me. I worked at an amusement park in Western Mass as a kid. I was out that way last week with my grand kids and could not think of the name of the park for the life of me.

Today I come here for the first time in ages, trying to sell an old domain name and I see yours for sale. That's the name of the park I worked in, but couldn't remember the name of. SO, I am sure there are a few others out there that would love that name.

Now I am going to go see what ever happened to the Mountain Park I remember.

Great story. Serendipity. I'd like to say small world, but we're talking different Mountain Parks…

if I were you I will ask 5k or 10k, if not tell them to wait more 4 years! and then go to dashboard and renewal that domain for 5 years! if someone ask $90 its a good indication that they want your domain! but of course they will play slow and increase the price later!

playing domain is like(forex) i.e guessing game! if we right we stick, and if we wrong, let them expired!
no matter what analysis we could be wrong! but if we right, it feel good! anyway its just $10 peryears right ?

I would suggest not to push this domain to auction at this time as finding end users is key to the sale of this domain.

I think you should counter offer low-mid $x,xxx and hold out for at least 2.5K .....

Thank you for your input. I laughed at your Forex analogy!

@doubleU you slowed us down on this decision, but after additional thought let me share why we've gone the auction route to end this coming Saturday, July 23rd at 3PM PST.

Over the next few days we'll be communicating with the longer tail domain owners, particularly those for whom we receive eMails that land here instead of in their office. @usernamex we ripped out the multiples and still have almost 200 connections to make, some of which we'll hit by telephone.

For those who have previously made offers, now they will see that this is likely their last, best chance to buy, and the reserve has already been met at only $90.00

Finally, I know that we have left money behind by undervaluing some properties, and have lost deals that could have been made when we countered too high. In this case an auction takes the guesswork out.

I'll post a link up at "external sales" and maybe a poll for a final price.

Thanks to all.
