Hi there,

I know it's a newbie question and probably been discussed multiple times, but I can't seem to find this specific answer. Even the official Sedo thread doesn't seem to address this, or at least, if there is an answer, it's scattered through 57 pages of discussion which also deals with other things such as optimizing parking.

What is the most effective way to sell a domain through Sedo?

For starters, just parking it and waiting for offers to come does not seem to be a good idea.. you can potentially wait forever.

You can apply for a premium auction. I assume (still waiting to hear from my first application) that only really good domain names are approved.

Sedo states: "Promoting your domain through Sedo’s Featured Listings improves your chances of receiving an offer" which will turn start the auction. Is this a good idea to do? And if so, what is more effective: "Featured Listing" or "Category Showcase"?

Setting a minimum offer a good idea? It'll weed out ridiculous offers.

Not to mention, I'm guessing there are certain days/times which are better than others.

I would appreciate all advice or pointers to specific threads that have discussed this before.

Thanks,
msidx

Don't apply for premium auctions with names that are recently registered or that don't have any traffic, because they'll get denied, and then you'll never be able to submit them again (they'll be ineligible).

I wouldn't recommend paying for category showcase listings, because I tested it out this summer, and hardly had any difference in views between those names the others in my catalog.

The Featured Listings might be worth it, although there seem to be a lot of those, too. The sales I've made through Sedo I'm convinced have come from people who are either searching for those terms or have landed on 'for sale' pages from other sources (i.e., DomainTools Whois lookups, etc.).

I don't set minimum offers, but that does mean I have to respond to lowball offers from time to time.

There are a lot of ways to promote your sedo listings. I've found that my sales are more consistent with a specified price, but to each their own. I contact end-users via email and place a link to the sedo "buy this domain" page. You can also use twitter to generate interest, just shorten the link and tweet the domain and price. The link shrortener (like no_url_shorteners) can keep stats of how many times its been clicked.

Why do you do the marketing and hard work (e.g., contacting end-users) to sell a domain name and then direct the potential buyer to Sedo, which will take 10% of the sale? Why don't you keep all of the sale proceeds if you do the work independent of Sedo?

i would personally start looking for end users. I would not wait for someone to magically stumble upon your domain and make an offer.
Be proactive and start looking for people to sell your domain to.
It's a long process and you might not get replies to your emails but its better than sitting and waiting.

There's a trick to SEDO in my opinion. Not any domain name is going to sell there quickly. Also, if you're going to do all the work to get people to your domain, keep the money and skip SEDO. Back to the trick, shoot I don't want to post it here, just PM me and I will let you know.

Offers on Sedo have really dried up for me recently. I used them years ago with no luck and stopped listing domains with them.

I tried Sedo again this spring and I was pleasantly surprised when I started getting an offer or so a week. I even sold a few domains with them. However, after getting six offers in September, I haven't had any since.

You could park your domains with Sedo so your listings will show traffic, which is a big factor in getting offers. I've found that parking with Sedo earns less than with other parking sites, but they might pay better for you. If you're not earning much with parking going with Sedo might be the best option because parking with them does seem to generate more offers.

Also, make sure you take the time to categorize your domains. Sedo allows you to list each domain in up to three categories.
