When the DotMobi domain registry opened in September last year, Infotechs moved fast to register some valuable domain names that could be developed into attractive and highly useful mobile sites for the Sri Lankan and global market. These include Colombcity.mobi, Srilankan.mobi, Ceylontea.mobi, Pitaratajobs.mobi, Lankabanks.mobi, Lankahospitals.mobi, Lankamusic.mobi, Lankaproperty.mobi, Lankajewellery.mobi to name a few.

As a part of their social responsibility, Infotechs also plans to develop informative sites under their HIVaidsinfo.mobi, Malariainfo.mobi, TBinfo.mobi, Dengueinfo.mobi, Cancermedicine.mobi sites and green sites such as Saveplanet.mobi. I'd be curious to see some numbers regarding this. Besides, if I had to guess, they would likely get cell phones before PC's so for many, mobile internet could be their first internet experience.

In most country in Asia, having a cellphone is a trend like fashion. They will do anything to tweak the cellphone. They skin it, change the housing to a fancy one, change the LED colour and so on. It's not a question of affordability here, they will find a way to get the latest hot mobiles in the market. They are mobiles crazy. And I believe in a few years, mobile surfing will become a very huge trend.
