hi,

i see every day more and more nice short domains being drop or sell on less better combinations of CCC and less better extensions like .info or even .org.

Moniker for instance seems very active at this moment, puting for auction many NLN/LNN/NNL.com and the likes. I see even LLL.com being put on sale at snapnames by moniker.

i'm not very experienced with this market but it seems to me that we are finally seeing a raise in the offer side with prices droping fast. this is a trend that has been accelerating since the start of the year.

it seems to me that this year will be a key year for anyone engaged with this market and with free capital to spend because we are starting to see traded prices that i wouldn't think to get so soon. this to me means opportunity but also the need to be picky on what to buy, as unfortunatly one can't buy everything :|

anyone more experienced confirms this idea?

regards,
tonecas

To quote Snoop, "Don't try to catch a falling knife".

I don't know if today's prices are good, if tomorrow's prices will be better, or if prices will be better still a month from now and in this economy I really don't see how anyone could make such a prediction anything more than an educated guess. If you want to invest for the long term, then perhaps now is a good time to buy. Will the domain market recover? I think it will eventually. How soon? Don't know.

thanks for your input Reece,

that's somewhat like what i think. i see this pattern in every market that is made by people. that is why the hype in the domain market in 2007 seem to me like a deja vu. in a smiliar manner, we are beginning to move to the other extreme now.

taking a distanciated look at the "big movements", and looking into what happened in the past (and the duration of the movements), i believe that we are in the process of getting lower prices through out this year. so, i see this year and the next one as great opportunities to invest in the domain market for the next years BUT that has to be done very constiously. i believe that we will see an increase of supply pressing the prices down so it will allways be tempting to buy everything because we are acostumed to higher prices and things will look cheap just to get cheaper next.

that's when the old adage "don't try to catch a falling knife" makes all sense.

so my idea is: do your homework, select what you think will be the best assets for the long term and that you can afford to buy (and risk) and wait for prices to come well bellow the start of this year levels (or something like the average of the last 10 years?). this "well bellow" is the key and the unknown factor but the idea is to pay what we want, not what sellers want. that is, wait for prices to come to you "at discount" and not the other way around and so avoid paying that premium.

right now at namejet there are a some hot LLLL auctions with nice $xxxx active bidding, so it appears that there is some action on special names such as aaab, abab, cvcv. the whole quad-premium thing has fallen of a cliff however from what i can see.
