Moniker VS GoDaddy Question

Hi y' all....

I just had some issues and want to know your opinions about what you would do if you would be in my shoes......

Last week i ran in some problems with registering a domain name @ moniker with my card on file.....the REP couldn't figure out the prob but he assured me to investigate the issue....we ended up using a different card, no big deal

Today i wanted to register another domain....with the SAME card on file....same problems , my card was not accepted(even i am using this card on a daily basis)

I called moniker and i heard a message..."our office is open from....."

I could call Go daddy right now and someone would pick up the phone...

I am not comparing on or the other, i have a couple domains at each registrar, both have there plus or minus....all what i asked was for support and i think the customer comes first....

What do you guys think?

PS: i ended up registering the domain with GD and the card that wouldn't work at Moniker. :)

Cheers,

Frank

well in this case i would go for gd since it's the one who really attended and given you your request without waiting for a human being to verify this and needless to say you might end up submitting another credit card on moniker.

in all our cases the waiting time is unnecessary since we're in a hurry to get that domain before someone else does.

just my 2 cents.

I had a simmilar problem with a register due to a card. Turns out the card I was using was a debit card. Some banks do not run the transactions through the same as they would an actual credit card. This can cause a problem.
I changed to a standard CC and all was better.

cheap names = godaddy
nice names = moniker.

Moniker might not have the best CS or punctuality, but I doubt they'd ever do something like delete and resell your name for missing whois/contact info :guilty:

Plus if you have a cheap price set up with Moniker you can renew them for this price, with Godaddy you have to get a coupon each time

Plus if you have hundreds of names, it becomes very 'UNCOMFORTABLE!' to manage them with Godaddy, at least with moniker you line up all your domain names at once and do bulk actions and changes :)

I have contacted Godaddy and asked them to make it possible to line all your domain names up in one list for bulk changes. They think they know best 'which they don't' and tell me something about 'managed folders' which I still can not work out for the life of me, yeah good one godaddy you have 'no idea'

Plus if you do not have auto renew on for the 'full price' and you accidently let a domain slip past expiry date, you can not easily reactivate the domain, I can't even remember where you go to reactivate a domain in the godaddy mess, I did 'I think' about a year ago, but their links are 'all over the place' so to say, he he

I may sound a bit critical, but hey, I'm a customer I deserve better (By the way Godaddy I am going to be moving my hundreds of domains little by little to the other registrar mentioned in this thread because of what I have commented on, actually I already am!). Any Godaddy execs I hope you read this and take 'note', if you 'do not' then there is no hope for you!!! You are 'useless' :) :hi: ;)

Hi Reece, in my opinion it doesn't matter if cheep or good or nice or whatsoever.....during a time sensitive transaction, seeing a name you want/like/desire and it occurs that you have problems, it is crucial to have at least a real support person, don't you think?

And again, i love moniker- their super discount for NP member...but again, i had this issue with my card on file a week ago..., the rep told me they work on the prob, admitted that is was on their end(we ended up using another card) and coming back tonight and i couldn't use the same card me i start to think.....again no badgering on moniker here....all what i cannot understand is the call i made....an hour ago,11.21 est, and i received an automated response...that is not what i want....think about our fellow members here on NP, from all over the world, if they choose moniker, they should get a real person too, right??

Cheers

If you are not satisfied, then at least I would use name.com, domainsite.com, namecheap.com or so as alternative. With GoDaddy I had only one domain in my life and the experiences were absolutely not positive so I rather do my businesses elsewhere. I am not going to blackmail them, I am sure they have a lot of satisfied users as well, but I would also not recommend GD to anyone.

Heya Gerrit,

You hit it on the nail, a lot of people are not happy with GD...but at least ...i found this name...i want it to be MY registered name... and i couldn't do it with moniker because of my card prob , what i addressed last week with the support( i just used the card in question today) and i called in and got a "we are closed right now, call in tomorrow" message....so, i guess i am wrong here....and u know what?....i just let it go....at least the name is now in my godaddy account...(i will transfer it out after 60 days, lol)

Cheers,

Frank

What is this Moniker "super discount" for NP members?

Moniker support: nearly non existent
Moniker site: often slow
Moniker domain management: plain vanilla
Errors I have had while ordering from Moniker: 1
Moniker reputation for protecting domain owner: Flawless
Moniker push: 1 field
Moniker prices: very high, unless you email your rep and tell them you want the good prices

Godaddy support: one of the best , imho
Godaddy site: always slow
Godaddy domain management: they keep making it prettier and prettier, but not better and better
Errors I have had while ordering from GoDaddy: 1
Godaddy reputation for protecting domain owner: Flawed
Godaddy push: full whois
Godaddy prices: high, unless you use a coupon

In the end, I choose Moniker for security and management features, sacrificing support, and even paying a bit more than at GD.

If I want to register something very quickly, I will always use dynadot.
If you have account credit there, it goes like this:
search. push the add and checkout button. push the submit button. done.
You do have to deposit $500 to get the cheaper rates though.

I haven't had any problems with godaddy...
Actually transferred out a few names from Moniker recently...

One reason to dislike both moniker and godaddy is for the reason that each time you register a name there you have to go through a series of "extras" and you have to click no thanks no thanks or continue continue. That dishonurs my purpose.
At name.com there is nothing of these extra sales persecuting. (though there are other annoying features with name.com, as with all)

However, once I wanted to register 31 domains at name.com and there was no verification coming, "error no request bla bla " something so I tried 3 times until there came a payment verification on the screen. But... it showed up that the cc had been charged 3 times (as for 93 domains) and I got terrified because I didnยดt expect it and in the circumstances around caused me tremendous problems of private concern. I called name.com and someone lifted the phone immediately to tell when this happens there is a hold of 2-3.. 5 days and then money is returned to the account. "when it happens", I thought it should not happen at all. How often should that happen statistically?? I have regged a few times there after that, maybe 5 times, a few domains each time and there has not been any overcharge those times.

But the lesson is, I will never, anywhere, register a big number of domains at the same time. I will take them few by few, so to say, and check my account between each time.

Just to comment on this. I have contacted Moniker support directly by email and I usually do not receive a response until a few days after.
However, it really helps to know your account rep's email. I usually email mines and get a response on the next working day.

I use GoDaddy for majority of my names. Perhaps it's slow but I can make with their any actions in bulk. I can export all names to Excel file and them manually check using a mask. You can manually input for example 25 domain names and perform any bulk actions over them at GoDaddy.
Push process is inconvenient at GoDaddy and transfer names to GoDaddy isn't easy to understand for a newbie. The only my concern about GoDaddy is:
Godaddy reputation for protecting domain owner: Flawed
And I'm thinking about transferring all my domains from GoDaddy to a more reputable domain registrar but which reputable domain registrar may offer 7$ domain registrations and renewals for domainers that have 300+ or 1000+ domains? Who can advise?

A general advice as with many things is not to lay one job on the same place.
Unless you are a risk taker who, like some people.. who want to feel thrills - win the most possible or risk to lose.

Sort up your domains by the respective purposes you have for them, if so is. Then, try to think who is best for each type but donยดt put all (even within each type) at only one place.

If some domains are very valuable or critical, pay some extra bucks just for them, for most security or service, though I donยดt know who that would be.

Bulk changes work just fine on godaddy.

I have half my names (400+) at GoDaddy and the other half (400+) at Moniker. I havent had many problems with either one. I wouldnt feel comfortable knowing that my entire investment, all the domains I owned, were all with one single company so I like to split it up just incase.

Frank,

Do you have the special domain pricing at Moniker?

If you do,it is my understanding that you can't use a credit card for
individual domain registrations as the transaction fees would make
the domain sale unprofitable.

That's why Moniker asks that you pre-load your account with a minimum of $500.

That might be why your credit card did not work.

Sometimes for individual registrations at Moniker, I use PayPal and just
pay the additional 4% fee.

What's your understanding?

Patrick

Will you feel yourself comfortable if you lose one half of your portfolio or 1/4 of all your domains?

I wouldnt feel comfortable losing ANY domains, but I would rather lose 50%than 100%.

If you have a Moniker membership with the forum pricing you dont have to preload your account with any money. You can use a cred or debit card and just buy a single name, I do it all the time.
