Moniker VS GoDaddy Question

Hi y' all....

I just had some issues and want to know your opinions about what you would do if you would be in my shoes......

Last week i ran in some problems with registering a domain name @ moniker with my card on file.....the REP couldn't figure out the prob but he assured me to investigate the issue....we ended up using a different card, no big deal

Today i wanted to register another domain....with the SAME card on file....same problems , my card was not accepted(even i am using this card on a daily basis)

I called moniker and i heard a message..."our office is open from....."

I could call Go daddy right now and someone would pick up the phone...

I am not comparing on or the other, i have a couple domains at each registrar, both have there plus or minus....all what i asked was for support and i think the customer comes first....

What do you guys think?

PS: i ended up registering the domain with GD and the card that wouldn't work at Moniker. :)

Cheers,

Frank

I have an account @ Moniker and a membership here. How do I meld the two to get the discount? :td:

If you have a Moniker membership with the forum pricing you dont have to preload your account with any money. You can use a cred or debit card and just buy a single name, I do it all the time.

Good to know but that is different from what I was told.

Plus if you have a cheap price set up with Moniker you can renew them for this price, with Godaddy you have to get a coupon each time

Plus if you have hundreds of names, it becomes very 'UNCOMFORTABLE!' to manage them with Godaddy, at least with moniker you line up all your domain names at once and do bulk actions and changes :)

I have contacted Godaddy and asked them to make it possible to line all your domain names up in one list for bulk changes. They think they know best 'which they don't' and tell me something about 'managed folders' which I still can not work out for the life of me, yeah good one godaddy you have 'no idea'

Plus if you do not have auto renew on for the 'full price' and you accidently let a domain slip past expiry date, you can not easily reactivate the domain, I can't even remember where you go to reactivate a domain in the godaddy mess, I did 'I think' about a year ago, but their links are 'all over the place' so to say, he he

I may sound a bit critical, but hey, I'm a customer I deserve better (By the way Godaddy I am going to be moving my hundreds of domains little by little to the other registrar mentioned in this thread because of what I have commented on, actually I already am!). Any Godaddy execs I hope you read this and take 'note', if you 'do not' then there is no hope for you!!! You are 'useless' :) :hi: ;)

Your experiences Josh, are the complete opposite of mine. GoDaddy has the best, most flexible control panel on the planet for managing domains in bulk.

I don't really understand what you mean by "line up" your domains. Is that all, or a select few domains you wish to bulk modify?

Folders are generally easy to use. I don't see why you are having problems.

It's also very easy to renew an expired domain at GoDaddy. Just click on the renew button.

Take a look at this. I usually got a response from 1 hour to 24 hours. There is an online support system.

Yup. They (finally!) have an online ticket system.

I've also handled a few of the same issue the OP experienced. It's generally a
case where the registrar's system and the user's card issuer's don't "jive" for
whatever reason. (well, things happen...)

Using a different card is the most immediate remedy. It's not always the case
where you tell the registrar, "Hey, dude, get your systems fixed now!" since it
might create another (and possibly worse) problem.

OTOH, if the registrar consistently gets the same complaint from lots of users,
then that's when they'll take action. There's no industry standard number, so
each registrar's mileage varies.

You just do what you can under the circumstances.

It's mostly the registrar's online processor which is the problem. Not the registrar's fault, except their choice of online processor. Some/many online processors don't accept debit cards or credit cards issued outside US.

Moniker won't sell your searches.

You are technically required to preload $500 but it's not requested when you are upgraded. I simply use CC as well.

anyone have a moniker rep i can contact to get the special pricing,...planning to move my domains to moniker..

but is namecheap better or moniker better?

open an account at moniker, they should then assign you a rep.
email them and let them know you're an NP member and you want to transfer your names over, but the pricing is a bit high and you'd like the better rate.

IIRC, namecheap are an enom reseller, and my experiences with enom have not been good.

Totally agree.

Moniker support nearly inexistant? In the past I had a few issues with the support reacting slowly, but they seem to have solved that issue really well. Last times I contacted support I got an email back from my rep within the few hours, which is good enough for me really! Name.com also usually mail back within that same time. Also, I found Moniker's support always very friendly and not replying as if they were dealing with just one of the many customers ; the approach was friendly really.

All in all, I think security is very important in domains. If you have a registrar like Moniker who really care about it, and the prices are OK... why doubt? Yes, some (including GoDaddy) may be cheaper, but Moniker is not expensive neither and I happily pay a bit extra for good service and piece of mind.

The only thing I as a Europe-based customer could complain about but which I won't because most US based registrars have this issue, is that the support either costs a lot per telephone or uses a toll-free number that cannot be phoned from Europe. But unfortunately I haven't come across any European registrar that really offers what I look for. So I just use email to contact support and lately Moniker have been very responsive and never with delays. A special phone nr for their European customers would be superb, but you cannot have it all :)
