Question for discussion purposes:
Would the "
.INFO" be an effective extension, or brand, for accessing corporate
information on the Mobile Webโข by those that are "on the go" ... assuming it was developed and had the same components, including "trustmark", as the
".MOBI"?!?
IYHO's.
If not, why? Please be specific. :gl: :talk:

Any TLD is appropriate to do anything, it just depends on mass adoption. Mass adoption, in this semi-mature internet era requires more than just organic growth, it requires the kind of efforts that mtld are implementing and that you are saying are worthless.
Regarding 3 digit TLDs vs 4 digit TLDs, I and many others routinely write multiple hundred character messages on our blackberry and other keypads. This is not an issue. Most phones globally will have vastly improved keypads and touch screen interfaces in years to come, and all will be 'smart'.
Regarding mdot vs mobi etc. also not an issue. Both can live side by side. What about all the new mobile sites and businesses that will be developed over the next few years. many of these new ventures will not have a cool .com, so they will go with .mobi.
Btw, there is a post over on mobility today regarding stats on mobile naming conventions that says name.com/wap is the most common naming modifier for legacy sites, not mdot. Wap is ofcourse out of date now, so that will change as it doesn't make any sense.
Perhaps the reason you are having such an issue understanding the worth of the mobi TLD is because you are basing your opinions on the situation today. I think many of those that took the risk to invest in dotmobi and who are developing sites right now are looking to the future. The future will not be like the present.
Just to recap-
3 character TLD vs 4 character TLD- NON-ISSUE
m.name.com vs name.com/wap vs name.mobi- NON-ISSUE
standalone developed site or not standalone- NON-ISSUE
.tel vs .mobi- CAN'T COMPARE/NON-ISSUE

I'd like to see a detailed study of this ... specifically, what Mobile Webโข users are looking for today as well as in the future? I would say, in general and from personal experience, access to
vital contact information / directions / related links, etc. are right up there at this time. :talk: :imho:
Moreover, these users that you mention ... are they on super cool iPhonesโข, Blackberrysยฉ and other smart devices? :gl:
.GO ... interesting.

There are so many studies out there, and the answer to what mobile web users are looking for, doesn't look like a banal text based directory. A banal text based directory will look somewhat like a simple mobile parking page. We all know what the trends are with parking pages. How many people here have ever bookmarked a parking page?
Or are you basing your assessment of the superiority of a .tel format over .mobi on the reduced bandwidth required for a text based listing?
Again you have to look to the future, bandwidth will not be in issue as we move forward.
