Which TLD do you prefer? I know tons of .mobi are being swipted up, but Id rather wait and get myself a .tel domain. First of .tel is short, and second off it will be good for any new bussiness. I personally wish that it came out before .mobi. Also I think that .tel will become the standard for phones. What do you guys think.

Thanks

.tel has no corporate backing samsung is already behind .mobi along with a number of other large companies, mobile is more modern that tel i think tel will fall by the wayside, + they are way late to the game

I prefer .mobi because .tel reminds me of old rotary dial phones. I plan to register only one .tel domain tho, for private use.

.tel (TELephone)
.mobi (MOBIle phone)

.mobi will get higher in the search engines, i'm thinking.

i think the purpose of .tel is for a personal voip type calling service.

well they are focused on 2 diffent aspects of the mobile web .mobi is about websites and content .tel is about phone numbers ... they really won't compete.

i just have a sneaky suspicion that alot of the .mobi naysayers will suddenly jump on this extension and claim it's superior?

yes .tel as in .telephone number.

I don't like the .tel extension. Yes, it's shorter but the first thing that poppped into my head was "Tel Aviv". Also, the "l" at the end is too tall ;)

.tel is aimed at phone numbers, voip, and the such....they're not even allowing numercial names to be registered. It will not become the standard for cell phones. And yes its shorter, by one letter. .Tel has zero backing when compared to .mobi and I don't think it was have any impact.

We've already been through this before, you should do a search on .tel before starting a rehashed conversation...

This is a very interesting thread. I think .tel will be great for those (like me) who didn't find out about or have the confidence in .mobi until it was too late. I was (and still am) sceptical about as to how successful .mobi will be.

I think .tel really has got its work cut out to be able to compete with .mobi but think about all those excellent keywords that'll be up for grabs :hehe:

my point exactly!

"i just have a sneaky suspicion that alot of the .mobi naysayers will suddenly jump on this extension and claim it's superior?"

i think the only good keywords for .tel will be ones related to phone calls, (ie. contacts, directories, etc). I could be wrong, but i dont see things like homeloans.tel being worth anything, but who knows. i'll pick up a few, but considering what is going on and about to happen with .mobi, I just don't see .tel having any impact whatdoever...

how do you make money off basically a voip or telephone number?
(not including buying and selling domains of-course!)
it's a personal web address to call someone on.
names like homeloans.tel could be good to call a homeloans company, but not for anyone else.
if you had loans.tel you could get a huge number of voip calls wanting a loan!
instead of dialling 01234534455566, you dial loans (drop the .tel) and your away!

:hehe: I don't think .tel will ever be superior but it's a good opportunity for domainers who can secure premium keywords relevant to extn. Anything else is too much of a risk. I wonder how many people said that about .mobi? :hehe:

you could be right, i don't know..

Like I said, I will grab a few, although it sucks a little that numericals won't be available...

i'd rather have loans.mobi though :)

same here, but it wont stop me from trying to get loans.tel :hehe:

numbers will be impossible to register because you could be registering someones home phone number! this must be why they dropped them.

We've gone over this before...

who uses "telephones" anymore? I don't know anyone... .tel is irrelevant.

Everyone uses Mobile phones... not mobile telephones, since no one says that.
