I think we should scam the scammers

Hello,

Please let me know a quote in US dollars or Euros for the name
mentioned in the subject of this email. We saw it listed for sale.

Our company develops software (mainly client-server systems).

If you offer more domains for sale with good reselling potential
please email us your list. We are going to resell domains later to generate
additional income since this is not our main business.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Regards,
Michael Waldner

Damn! I know that was a scam. I received an email exactly like that one some weeks ago. But the sender was Anthony Waldner. boss @ sinnsyk.com iirc.

I googled for "SINN Systems" and there are 54 results, a lot of scammed people and even this http://www.namepros.com/warnings-and-alerts/264103-scam.html

Legally speaking, theres probably not much you can do. While I personally consider it a scam, I don't know the laws behind it. And I also don't know the laws of wherever they live, they may be different. Technically, they aren't offering you anything, other than an impression that they wish to buy something from you. Usually when it comes to a sale, unless there is a contract, its not binding until money has been exchanged. So maybe it's not even illegal? Though is definitely deceptive, you'd probably have to prove that they've never bought a domain, which could be extremely hard.

Also, those lawyers mentioned, while extremely knowledgable in domain laws, they're really Intellectual Property lawyers and focus on the TM side of domains... So criminal scams and such aren't really their area.

Either way that youtube link is very good. I never saw the ABC special, but I just watched the three parts and it was definitely a interesting watch. It shows a little more info on the 419 scam than normally seen online.

You ever wonder why some people fall for those schemes without using their
heads first?

a lot (most) of these domain scams (including the above) can be traced back to Russia and Eastern Europe - not Nigeria - although Nigeria is world famous for such things
