Is this spam or for real, a potential enduser?

I have gotten the occasional query and I always assume they are fakes, but rather than dismiss it I need someone to affirm this is for real or not. Many thanks!

The email:

Hello,

Please let me know a quote for the name mentioned in the subject of
this email. We saw it listed for sale.

Our company develops software (mainly client-server systems).

If you offer more domains for sale with good reselling potential
please email us your list.

Looking forward to do business with you.

Regards,

Appraisal scam!

I believe the address will also be something like bonbon.net :P

If you send them an offer, infact any price quote, they will say ok, but when need to get it appraised first !

Stay away!

Thanks! Figured as much :(

I did have one recently that was a bit different though. A company XYZ made a query, "You own ABC.us and the .net will drop soon, we will catch it for $$$." They didint know I was a domainer when they sent the email though. Actually they did me a favor alerting me to the fact it would become available. Lo and behold I regged it for $4.99---so the jokes on them. :hehe:

When I get these emails, I usually just copy and paste the message into another email account I have, then I send the exact same message to the person who sent it to me asking to buy their domain! :) I haven't gotten a response yet, heh.

I have been meaning to raise this....

firstly check the x-headers in your e-mail... probably came from .ru (russian scammers)

secondly:

if we are getting these e-mails... I reckon maybe hundreds of thousands are getting them... (non domain "ordinary" domain owners).

Whilst we are sharp.. most end users could easily be fooled.

Who knows how much they have scammed?

Obviously enough to make it worth their while, or else they wouldn't keep doing it. Stay alert, and share with others.

Glad I checked the forum, I just got this email too. What made me suspicious was how it started out (just "hello", no name) and how it said "the domain name in the subject" instead of just saying what the name was again (obviously a whois harvester is doing this).

OH, I see and they're the ones advertising the "domains wanted" section, where there are too-good-to-be-true wanted ads...probably want the same appraisal for them.
