Would like to know your opinion on this choice.

Do you think it was a smart, wise, bold, stupid or don't give a damn choice?

Popular thread.. I guess for McCain we can say "mission accomplished".. Palin gets the limelight off him and his stand on the issues. I didn't know much about her beforehand, but now I can say I have as many doubts about her as I do McCain.

"...the great majority of Americans who need help"

That there is the big difference between the sides. I think the last thing people need is more "help" from the government.

I rarely hear Chinese asking for more help from their government, for example - maybe because they still remember what government help looks like.
What a stupid comment. Something like 90% of China's citizens can't read or write and are so poverty stricken that they have to resort to selling their children.

Wow. That's so far from any kind of truth I don't know where to start. It's also getting off topic, so I'll leave it to you to learn a bit of the world's most populous country. Even one news article will help a lot.

Always be very careful when using the word "stupid."

It pays to learn about other countries, because it can help you decide about proposed directions your own country might take.

Start with the Xia Dynasty in China in 2100 BC.

Can any of you Palintologists out there tell me just exactly where she stands on issues like immigration, crime, healthcare, etc.

Hi, homebuyer.

No, I can't tell you where she stands on those issues. So far as immigration, I don't like any of the candidates' stances, so she can hardly be worse. It's frustrating for expats. I know so many people with great educations, great talent and who would really be a benefit to have in the US. Of course, they follow the legal route to immigration, and get years of runaround, even being treated like criminals. Nobody in the government lifts a finger to help. Meanwhile, millions of uneducated, unscreened people who broke the law to come are given special preference. It's insane. Don't see how Palin can be any worse on that score.

So far as the others, I place less important on their "stands." Politicians change their stands all the time. I prefer to look at their character and judgment. A president is faced with so many complex challenges - no one person can be acquainted with the details of them all. So, it comes down to character and judgment, and the ability to make decisions and see the larger picture.

McCain and Biden are pretty much known to us. Palin and Obama are not. In fact, we know less about Obama in some areas than we do about Palin, and he's on the brink of the Presidency. Obama displays a combination of emptiness, ignorance of world affairs and vanity that I find frightening. Still, I would be less worried about him if he were running for VP. I suppose all politicians are vain, but most have the sense to try to hide it.

Maybe if she was permitted to take actual questions from reporters and journalists ... I learned ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about her positions on the substantive issues facing this country in the Charlie Gibson softball interview (other than her not comprehending the Bush doctrine and her other - though well rehersed - rambling thoughts and attempts at responses), IMHO. :| :red:
She clealry lacks necessary character and judgement in continuing to deny that she fully supported the infamous "bridge to nowhere" and millions upon millions in :$: earmarks, in my view!

Ah, sorry. 85 million illiterates chinese. Not %. Maybe you only believe what you want to believe but if you don't think the selling of children is too often an occurance in rural china, you are very wrong.

Jason, I lived in China, and have been all over the country, including the backwater parts. And you have obviously never been there.

You also changed your story. You said 90% were illiterate (completely wrong) and sold their children (absurd). Then, in your second post, you said you were right because the selling of children exists in China.

Well, crack babies exist in the US. Does that mean 90% (or 85%) of Americans are crack babies?

Do you really think that Americans are so much smarter or better than Chinese? That you can have any government you want and do fine because of your natural superiority?

I've got news for you, the poor countries are filled with smart and ambitious people that are just laughing at your smugness. They are focused and working hard to get ahead, and your lazy stereotypes only hurt you in the long run.

I think Palin is the "Vanity" candidate. She's so prim and proper, goes to church and says exactly what they tell her to, she will destroy this country when McCain passes on, IMHO. I'm almost convinced that weeks or days before the election, Bush will find himself NEEDING to start another B*ll Sh*t conflict based on more lies, and there will be nothing the American people can do to stop him.

McCain and Palin will step up to support the decision, Republicans will cheer USA, and the Democrats will shake their heads in amazement that it's happening all over again. Watch the news folks, in the coming weeks, the bush administration will start hinting about a SERIOUS problem in Iran or elsewhere, and that's the cue that there's a plan already going into action.

When McCain and Palin start slipping in the polls, and it's going to happen, not because they are worse, but because the election polls are always a ride, there will be a new war on the horizion. It's all about oil being an important part of our national security, forget that we give the oil industry billions for Green research and they haven't given back squat. Palin wants to drill, not develop new sources of energy.

It will be an interesting ride the next few weeks. Here's an interesting question, who would you vote for on these two tickets.

Obama and Palin

or

McCain and Biden

Do you think Ron Paul would have chosen Palin? Would Huckabee or Romney have chosen her?

I'm starting to think that the candidates have little to say about the choice, but those who control the party get to heavily influence that decision. I don't think any of us here believe that candidates really get to make their own decisions, the system chooses who they will run with.

In over 20 years of McCain serving his country, no one can tell me the best running mate McCain could think of, the most honest hard working Republican he's ever worked with in all that time, was a woman he briefly met two times.

It was a bad decision by the party, McCain doesn't hold the same values as Palin, and hearing him speak with a locked jaw while answering questions about how their differing views on abortion and global warming, one has to wonder what makes the Republican big wigs believe the American people are buying this ticket.

So would Ron Paul, Huckabee or Romney have chosen Palin, I think just as much as McCain really wanted to choose her. This is the big problem that will become the white elephant in the room. You can't avoid it, no matter how hard you try not to look. McCain will get in and most likely pass away during his first term, and then we will have another evangelical extremist in the white house.

That is what those who control the party are praying for. JMHO.

You already know the answer to the first question Dave. Hell no. However, I could see Shmuckabee choosing her, but not Romney.

It's a fantasy, but an interesting question nonetheless. I'd choose McCain/Biden because statistically there is a fairly strong chance McCain will die before his first term is over. If that happened, Biden would be capable of picking up the pieces (and cleaning up the mess left behind).

I still wouldn't take a chance on Palin, because Obama could possibly die in office too. After all, there is still a fair amount of racism in this country. :(

Possibly Huckabee, yes.. but I think he might have gone the Romney route. I can't see Romney choosing a woman running mate just to pander..

As for Paul, hehe..
