McCain UnAmerican? Not Born in "US"

Just came across this:

The Constitution has little relevance to the government, but still it's interesting to note that the crazed John McCain was born, to his state-connected parents, in the Panama Canal Zone. The Zone, the product of US imperialism under the crazed Teddy Roosevelt, was never officially US territory. That is, McCain was born in a foreign country, and therefore not eligible to be president, according to the Constitution.

:hehe: :-/

Now that would suck for the McCain supporters!

Nice .... lets associate a Decorated POW with the word "unamerican" over some stupid propaganda.

He's more "American" than anyone I know.

He's a guy I consider unstable more than unAmerican.. I've seen it suggested that he will make Cheney look like Gandhi. I personally do think he's sincere but misguided at best.. Limbaugh, Coulter, Buchanan, et al seem to agree he'd be a poor choice.

Google "McCain gooks".. here's a guy that hasn't been able to shake off his POW experience. It's something that literally colors his perceptions of the world.

I don't think he's capable of separating the word "Muslim" from the idea of the "radical Islamic extremist" (a phrase he uses too often in his campaign rhetoric to make me comfortable with this guy).

He talks about bridging the gap between differences of opinion. Hopefully, if elected, his foreign policy will reflect that.

I'm sorry he was a POW, but many Americans were also in the wrong place at the wrong time and were POWs too.. McCain is no more American than they are.

The law states you need to be born in the US. Hence why people like Schwarzenegger, despite having gained US citizenship, cannot become president (thank god) unless the laws are changed prior to candidacy.

But since when is the Panama Canal Zone not considered official US soil at that time? AFAIK the "Zonians" were considered American citizens living in an American territory.

This would make interesting debate should someone born in Guam or American Samoa ever want to run for president.

David .... You're just wrong. I'm not telling people to support him for president - But to call someone who fought for this country , Was captured and put through Hell "Un-american" is the dumbest thing I've ever seen leave Liberal lips. The whole mention of "Wrong Place - Wrong Time" is even dumber .... Most people had no choice - unless they were Draft Dodging Traitors. THOSE people are Un-American. When called upon to fight for this country - You do it. Those who sign up in the military for nothing more than a GI Bill now a days and then refuse to fight based on ANY excuse are also traitors. It's just that simple.

You already know my POV on Political threads ... and I still feel that way , But I'm not going to set here reading this Rubbish and let it slide.

If people like those lunatics are against him, I'm all for him! :yell:

(Doesn't matter, though, I'm voting Democrat anyway.)

Exactly ;) I am a registered Republican (Though I don't let that bother me on Election day ... I tend to vote for people I think are less crooked than the others  [They all are IMO no matter their political beliefs]) - But those mentioned on that list are what ? A Pill popper , A Foot in Mouth Lunatic , and a Fanatic that can't see beyond his own eyelids.

Not even close to my mindset.

By "wrong place, wrong time" I meant they had no choice, it was fate... and I certainly didn't mean UnAmerican as in "unamerican" which is why I capitalized it the way I did.

I don't agree all draft dodgers should be considered traitors tho.. whether you participate in a war you believe or don't believe in should be a matter of conscience and I applaud those who follow theirs rather than blindly follow.

By the way, I volunteered for the Army, tried to get in 9 times before I was finally accepted, then discharged because of medical problems (which had initially kept me out). This was in 1974, the last year of the Vietnam War.

At the time, I felt we were correct in what we were doing in Vietnam and was a Nixon supporter in fact.. now, in retrospect, I see things differently.

I still consider myself a Republican and a conservative in most things..

Either way, and of course great thanks to him - an American - for his prior military service and sacrifice, I don't see how McCain can beat Obama (though I do see how he could match up well against Hillary), IMHO. :gl:

Just my two sense.

Agreed. I think people (for the most part) would rather move on as a country rather than have four more years of the Bush Administration (at least the wars, anyway -- McCain seems to like those).

I voted in the primary this past Tuesday in NJ, I'm registered as Republican. I wonder if we can get a good number of people to vote on election day and put 'NamePros.com' in fill in the blank..

Enough votes would get us some media attention!

Honestly - I dont know why the republicans are even running and wasting their money .... I guess to keep up appearances. Face it - It's not their turn this time ;)

All good, civilized points ... unless (R) Bush pulls Osama out of the bunkers from the hills of Pakistan by August/September, to me there is no conceivable way that (R) McCain can beat Obama in November, IMHO.

PS. Good call, Bill! :tu: :p

I honestly thought Paul had a good shot or even Huckabee.. the MSM seems to have negated that option. Tho I guess it ain't over yet, I was hoping the online support for Paul would translate into real world votes.

If I were an American I would vote Obama without a single moment of doubt. He comes across as very capable and with some views and stands I tend to really agree with.

I would never vote Republican, too right-wing and conservative for me and right-wing and conservative are very far away from my own ideologies. Unfortunately Europe is moving to the right as well, which sort of worries me. If I were American, I'd go Democrat all the way, regardless of the candidate, but I would vote Obama if I had a choice.

The law that you need to be born in the US to run for president seems a bit absurd to me. What if your parents are both born Americans but you happen to be born during a short period their worked abroad? I think a requirement to hold citizenship would be more logic than requiring to be born in the country.

Just a short side-remark but, although I respect anyone's opinions, I disagree on the military statements above. I would never fight for my country. Really, I would never fight for anything and I am really glad in Europe military service has been abolished. Not that I would get in anyway (I have Aspergers) but I have strong pacifist ideals so I would not want involvement in any military activity, not for any reason. I have no patriottic feelings anyway, to serve in the military for my country would be something I would refuse on the spot.
